windows 10 home missing pin to taskbar for installed applications

I have multiple systems - Home, Pro. Ones with Windows 10 home do not have pin to taskbar for many installed applications, while all the ones with Windows 10 Pro do have it. All have the same version 1511 10586.318.

For instance in Windows 10 Home:

installed Office 2003 and right click on Excel or Word and then "More" its not shown.

All the pre-installed Applications appear to have it.

In Windows 10 Pro all the installed applications have it.

How add the feature to Windows 10 Home for installed Applications?

Hi,

Try to pin the Applications from All apps and check if it helps.

  1. Choose Start > All apps,

  2. Scroll to the application you want to pin, right click and then click Pin to taskbar.

You may also try to pin it from installed location.

  1. Go to the location of the application you want to pin, (For example, to pin the Microsoft Word, go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16 or C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16 and then to WinWord)

  2. Right-click the file and select 'Pin to Taskbar' from the context menu.

Try the above steps and let us know if you can pin applications to taskbar.

Rishad K T

Thank you for the reply.

Already tried all those suggestions, and just retried them.

Tried rebooting as well.

There seems to be a problem in Windows 10 home with installed applications, no "pin to Taskbar".

Also no "pin to Start" as well, which is more of a problem for tablet mode.

Using non-tablet mode for now.

Hi,

Please try the below troubleshooting methods and check if you can find the options to pin to taskbar.

Method 1.

You can run the Windows store apps troubleshooter on Windows 10. Follow the below steps to perform System maintenance troubleshooter.

1.    Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select Control Panel

2.    Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the Control Panel.

3.    Click on View all on the left navigation pane.

4.    Click on Windows store apps.

5.    Click on Advanced on the Windows store apps dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

6.    Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Windows store apps troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist try this method.

Method 2.

This issue could be due to the system file is corrupt. I recommend you to perform SFC scan, System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. Follow the below link on how to run SFC scan.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

If the issue still persist, I suggest you to install all Windows as well as optional updates on the system.  Windows Update helps keep your computer up to date with the latest system updates and drivers.

You can check Windows Update manually to help ensure you have the latest updates by following the below steps:

1. Go to Start and then Settings.

2. Click on Update and Recovery.

3. Check for updates under Windows Updates

4. Restart the system and check if the issue is resolved.

Keep us updated if you could pin the applications to taskbar.

I don't know what is causing your problem, but I can assure you that it is *not* a Windows 10 Home issue. Both Pin to Task bar and Pin to Start work fine on the two Windows 10 Home machines here.

If the problem is seen for all (not some) programs, then use the registry fix here.

[Fix] Pin to Start Option Missing in Windows 10

(It removes all GPOs/Policies which prevents items from being Pinned to Start)

Reported this problem to Microsoft Support.

Apparently now has an SR #: 1341653660

Problem does not occur on Windows 10 Pro.

Problem only appears to occur on legacy apps installed in Windows 10 Home.

Not sure about other version.

Hi,

Thanks for the update and response.

This may be an issue due to corrupted system files on the computer. I suggest you to use the DISM tool.

DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management)

Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) is the tool which fixes the Windows corruption error if there are any. Follow the steps:

  1. Press Windows + X.
  2. Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit Enter.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have any further related query.

I added a third step to the first suggestion, which worked for me:

1. Choose start> All apps,

2. Scroll to the application you want to pin, right click and then click Pin to taskbar.

3. When the desired icon tile appears in the desktop box, left click on it and drag it into the task bar.

Fixed. Could be DISM suggestion above or Version 1607 update.

In any case it now works properly.
