Making the Windows 10 Start Menu Work Again
There can be multiple reasons for the broken Start Menu and as usual, one solution cannot fit everywhere. Still, you should definitely give the following a try and who knows, the Start Menu starts working again, saving you from a full reset or reinstalling Windows 10 again.
Method 2:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
Are you able to solve it for you by following the procedure mentioned above or it fails? If it it fails, do make sure that you ran Powershell as Administrator (window will be called Administrator: Windows PowerShell ) and gave the command enough time to execute.
Edit:
=====================================================================
Ending up reinstalling,start menu fixed itself,after installing Kaspersky.IS v16 it broke again.
Reinstalled again,used Bitdefender Total Security 2015,no problem's with start menu since.

Did not work... no change. This problem is only on one of the two computers I converted to Win10. My laptop works fine and I'm able to pin my programs to the start menu. My desktop about half of the programs I want there won't pin. Dragging and dropping results in a little NO icon on the dragged icon. Right clicking and selecting pin to start simply doesn't work.
All of the programs in question pin just fine on the other computer.

Unfortunately it is becoming abundantly clear that Win10 is not anywhere near ready for prime time. I have not upgraded (or tried) three different computers. One was a complete failure and would not upgrade at all, reverting to Win7 after several hours of "upgrading".
I though the other two were OK but I was mistaken.... small flaws and problems all over the place, each with its own set of problems: inability to change the icons on items, inability to pin programs to the start menu, items missing all over the place from the start menu | all apps even though if I go to the folder the apps are in fact there... just that start can't see them!
I'm spending my days trying to fix Win10 rather than do productive work. Frustrating beyond belief that Microsoft would release such crappy software for a new operating system.
