Windows protected your PC

Hi,

I am a developer of an open source program called Universal Media Server. Recently our users started reporting that they see popups before running the installer, like https://prnt.sc/th6ygr

I have tried to do research and see why this is suddenly happening but I don't see why - we have been doing releases for years with no problems. Is there anything we can do to prove we are still trustworthy?

This is known as Windows SmartScreen which shows a warning when installing or running unsigned executables. You can easily turn of this feature but Microsoft doesn't recommend it. If you don't want your users seeing this warning anymore, you need to sign your executable with a certificate provided by a CA that's trusted by Windows. Check this out: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/archive/blogs/vsnetsetup/windows-smartscreen-prevented-an-unrecognized-app-from-running-running-this-app-might-put-your-pc-at-risk

Hi
You may contact Microsoft thru Submission guide.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/securi...
See "How do I dispute the detection of my program?" at the page.
