Windows 10 the requested operation requires elevation LibreOffice files

Trying to open files directly, get this error. When I open LibreOffice first, I can open the files from there. Very inconvenient.

MS Office and LibreOffice files, mostly .doc, .docx, and .ppt

Hi,

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to give administrator permissions to the desired folder and check if it helps.

  1. Right click on the desired folder and select Properties.
  2. Click on Edit button in Properties windows. Click ok to confirm UAC elevation request.
  3. Select user/group from permission windows or click Add to add other user or group.
  4. Now under Permission section check the rights which you want to grant i.e. check “Full Control” under the “Allow” column to assign full access rights control permissions. (Generally we add ‘Everyone’ to given permission to all the users on the computer).
  5. Edit the permission to Full Control for ‘Everyone’.
  6. Click OK for changes to take effect and click ok again to exit from Properties window.
Hope the information is helpful.  Keep us posted on the status for further assistance in this regard.

Hello,

I selected Properties and navigated to the Security tab but got no UAC elevation request. I added 'Everyone' and checked Full Control. When I clicked Apply, I received an Error Applying Security for multiple files in the folder.

An error occurred while applying security information to:

FILE PATH\FILENAME

Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied.

I have been trying to open Open Office .odt files.  They used to open.  Now I get "the requested operation requires elevation"   In fact it has gotten worse.  I was able to still open them if I opened open office writer first.  Now I get the same error message when trying to open open office.   I succeeded in running scannow per your suggestion.  The response includes "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.  For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.  Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.

My computer is a new Dell laptop  with Window 10 (upgraded from 8.1)  I reinstalled OO.  I searched for an answer but most gave info from 2009 etc before Windows 10.  I was not able to follow any of the ideas completely because what I had did not match what they described. If you can help I would appreciate it.   Thanks,  Michael    *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

Hi Michael,

I understand that you get "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" after running system file checker (sfc /scannow)

If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log” under the section Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)” to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan in the below article.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

I  too had this issue when trying to open .doc files from within My Documents when I had Libre Office installed having upgraded to Windows 10. During online chats with several Microsoft Support personnel the majority of the above solutions were attempted, but to no avail.

I have posted on the Libre Office equivalent of this page but have yet to receive any answers. Due to a separate issue with Adobe Reader DC, and following more chats and attempts at resolution, Windows 10 eventually became unusable and I ended up going back to Windows 7. Until both issues can be properly resolved then I will not be upgrading to Windows 10 again.

I do hope some form of solution can be found as Libre Office is my default office program as I simply can't afford Microsoft Office. Windows 10 is a good OS and I did really like it, but, I need everything I rely on to work before I'll go back to it.

Regards

Roger Bowen

I followed the steps suggested - it has made no difference at all.
I have this issue with Libreoffice and my Laptone WiFi USB dongle.
Win 10 is proving to be a PAIN!

Hmm,

It is a bit of a pain. Nobody on the Libre Office forum seems to have any answers either. There have been at least 2 program updates to Libre Office since this issue was reported. I'm inclined to think it's a Windows issue as any version of Libre Office I've used works fine in Windows 7.

Microsoft themselves seem to have been a bit quiet on the subject too...

Cheers Roger, I have been unable to find a cure either.  As I have similar issues with other applications I really think it's Windows.  Certainly, there are other bugs too that Ms must address asap.
Many thanks for the fast response.  Greatly appreciated.
Best wishes
