I've had Safe Browsing Bloom files show up on my desktop for about a week. I can't open them. I've never had the Chrome Browser on my computer so I don't know where the files came from. The only thing I can think of is that I downloaded an e-reader from a site on my library's website. This was about the same time as the Safe Browsing Bloom files started appearing. Also, I had an issue with Weather Blink toolbar before this. I got rid of that with Malwarebytes.

Thank you for your reply.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply, appreciate the time taken by you in keeping us updated on the status of the issue.

I would suggest you to perform Clean Boot on your system and check if the issue occurs.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

  1. Press Windows key + X key. And select Run.
  2. Type msconfig in the Run box and hit Enter.
  3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
  4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
  5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
  6. Close Task Manager.
  7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

I did the clean boot yesterday. Today when I opened the laptop there were 2 Safe Browsing Bloom files. There were both made right when I opened the computer and were of different sizes. Another file which started showing up at the same time is awesomium.log. I can open this and it is about the power state of the battery.

I checked my registry and found several references to Google Chrome and to chrome.exe. I did not change anything but do you think these could be the problem?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

You may run the Windows defender which is the inbuilt security software comes with Windows to protect your PC from worms/hackers. This way we can check if the virus/malware is the cause to the issue. Refer to the below link on how to use Windows defender.

Thanks for all your help. I cannot turn on Windows Defender even though I stopped my other security software. I think I will go back to Windows 8.

If you will use the Defender, it isn't enough, just turning the other antivirus of - you have to uninstall it - and if you return to older system, remember you have to save your stuff on extern media... But if you don't have any problems with Windows 10, why not stay wit it?

When installing another antivirusprogram, Windows Defender normally deactivates automatic - that's why you can't use it when the other antivirusprogram still is there.

Before doing that, I think, you should back up your pictures, documents and other personal stuff first, on extern media, so you don't lose anything!
