Microsoft account: family only letting me add three children, but I have five!

I am trying to add my kids to Family at http://account.microsoft.com/family/

I have five kids. But after I add the first three, while I am able to send an invite to the fourth, this is what that child gets when trying to accept the invitation:

"Can not join, family has reached maximum member allowed."

So what - Microsoft will not allow families with more than three kids to use the Family features?

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

No, you can add more than three kids in the family.

I recommend you to try with different computer and different browser and check if it shows the same result.

Please reply to us with the status of the issue.

Thanks.

I am sorry Anil Madishetty, did you actually try this before you posted?

I just tried on my 3rd computer, using Chrome, IE and Edge on each of the 3 computers (all windows 10).  The same message pops up each time...

You haven't joined the family yet!

Can not join, family has reached maximum member allowed.

So why does it give me this message for my child account if I don't have a limit.  Each person reporting this is stuck on the 4th person.  I have two more to join to my family after this one.

The problem before was stating there was an internal problem, now it states max number....I know it's difficult to imagine, but there is a bug.  Can you test it with 4 children accounts and then submit it to development when you can't add the 4th please.

If I sound a little frustrated, responding "No, you can add more than three kids in the family." when it was just stated I can not is not real productive.  I didn't "me too" until I had tried 2 computers and 3 browsers each.  Let's try to be productive and reach a solution, not just tell me I am wrong.  It is most certainly limited to 3 children for my account, and I know there are others in this very forum as I have read their posts as well.

Same problem for me. Tried to add child #4 and it's telling me max allowed reached when I accept the invitation from my child's account.

And now I have tried IE on Windows 8.1 with the same results.  I just wanted to eliminate the OS as the problem as well.

I am also having this problem.  I recently removed one of the four children I had set up because family safety was no longer working for them.  When I tried to re-add them to the family, I got the message shown above.

Edit:  I am also unable to switch their local account to a Microsoft account.  All of this was working until a couple of days ago.

Likewise, I've got 5 children but Family won't let me add the fifth. I've tried from different browsers on different computers. I also cannot add another adult

Anil, I have tried on multiple computers and browsers and still encountering the same error.

Also multiple others here getting the same error.

Since some of my children use Xbox, it would be very helpful if this feature actually worked.

Can you provide any updates whether this is a transient failure or a defect in the family system itself?

Thanks.

Same here. For two of my three kids it is still working. For the third it used to work until recently. I removed the third and tried to add it again, but then... same message. I tried it on multiple computer/browser combinations. Maybe something wrong on Microsoft's side?

Same here - limited to 3.

I tried contacting Microsoft support, and the exchange went like this:

Microsoft: "What that means is that you have the reached the maximum amount of persons that can be added, hence the reason why you are getting that message."

Me: "So how do we fix it?  How do we upgrade out account? You can't be serious in thinking that an acceptable answer is one of our kids just can't be part of our family?"

Microsoft: "Unfortunately once you are receving that message then there wouldn't be anything that can be don't with regards to changing the number of persons that can be added on the account."

Me to my daughter: "Microsoft says we have to disown you, because you can't be a part of our family"

Microsoft then forwarded me onto another tech support, who then forwarded me to billing, who then forwarded on again in a great big circle.
