How to set password hint on sign up?

I understand that you would like to place a password hint for Windows 10 sign in. We will assist you to resolve the issue.

To assist you better, I would like to know whether you are able to sign in to the account presently. Which account are you using to sign in to the computer? Is it a local account or Microsoft account?

If you are able to sign in to the account, I suggest you to refer to the steps provided below and check if it helps to resolve the issue. (If the account is local account with Administrator privileges)

1. Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
2. Click Change account type underUser Accounts.
3. Click on the user account you would like to create a password hint.
4. Create or change password hint for the user.

If your current user has already been password protected, you will see a Change the password link on the left-side pane. Click the link. On the next pane type your current password, a new password, and a password hint, and then click Change password button.

To assist you better, I would like to know what exactly happens when you try to change the account to standard account. Did you receive any error message? Is it a Microsoft Account?

My issue is forgetting the admin password when I restore my windows 10 from image recovery. The backup was several months ago so I can't remember its original password. I remember that I set the password hint which was easy to remind me to get back the password in case I forgot it. But now I can't see the hint password textbox after I restore my windows. Any help to show the password hint textbox?

I just want to setup the password hint but the attached steps don't apply/work for win 10 in September 2017 ( vers 1703 )

Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.  ( no Control Panel option available ) tried settings instead 

Click Change account type under User  Accounts. ( I'm assuming this is the Accounts option )

Click on the user account you would like to create a password hint.

Create or change password hint for the user ( ( there is no password hint option in any of the available settings ))
