Windows 10: Admin password and user ID changed - cannot change to original ID to login.

On Friday, my son changed the profile name on our PC (which runs on Windows10) to his email address and also changed the password. He now cannot remember the password so we cannot log in. We cannot change the user profile to log in as a different user either. looks like he chnaged the administratoe password and logon id.

I have checked his email account to see if he received an email from microsoft when he set up the account but he did not. I, as the original microsoft account owner, did not get an email from microsoft notifying m of the change either.

Could somebody please advise?  I have tried to use account.live.com to fix the problem, but it keeps getting rejected because we do not have enough information e.g. credit cards used and emails from his account.

extremely frustrating. I need to get access to my PC.

bump.....

I am in this identical situation, except I am the one who forgot the password. I have tried twice to reset the password, but when I enter the new password the computer responds that my device is off-line and that I should enter the previous password, presumably the one I forgot. The help offered here is no help at all.

Hi,

Greetings..

You need a local user account if you need to use PC,For that you need to create super admin account.

Try this steps.

There is an inbuilt admin account in Windows known as Super admin account.

if you wish you can enable it,using the following steps.

  • on your login screen, hold Shift key and Press restart.

  • It will boot into safe mode.

  • On that,click on troubleshoot->advanced-> Command Prompt.

type the following command in command prompt.

net user Administrator /active:yes ( leave one Space after Administrator.)

Hit Enter.

You Will get a confirmation message stating Command Completed successfully.

Now,Restart your PC again and click on new admin account that displays ( which doesn't require any Password)

And Create a new user account..

Hope it is helpful.

Well, I already tried that. Instead of a command prompt it asked me to select an account. The only account available to select was the one I am locked out of.

Steven - I am faced with exactly the same thing. The only choice is to use the locked account or restart the pc (again!)

For the record, your answer was not helpful. I clicked on the "Helpful" button to see if there was an "unhelpful" tag choice and true to my recent microsoft experience, there was not and by clicking on it there is no way of reversing it.

Negative. I asked the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they suggested calling Microsoft. When I have a spare couple of hours, that will be my next move. Meanwhile I am writing scathing responses to all survey questions about my opinion of Microsoft and Windows 10. It's leading for "worst product ever."

Microsoft are failing miserably here and have been absolutely useless in product design and customer service.  I have also been told to call them. That's a couple hours of life we will never get back. Other alternative is to hire a hacker to hack the password!
