Stuck in Safe Mode and forgot password for Windows 10

Old title: Stuck in Safe Mode

I use a pin when I log onto Windows 10 and I forgot my password. I entered safe mode where the password is required and I didn't sign safe mode on with a network, so changing my password will not work.

Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

We understand the inconvenience you have experienced.

Is it a Microsoft account or Local account?

Let me first confirm that, PIN password option for login will not be enabled when you go to Safe Mode. You will only be allowed to use a Password to access your PC. If it is a Local account, then sadly you don't have any option to fix this, unless you have password recovery disk.

If you're concerned about, you can still able to boot your system in Safe Mode with Networking. But you'll still need a password to reach desktop screen.

  1. Restart your PC. When you reach the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key and select the Power button, and then select Restart.

  2. After your PC restarts, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options >Startup settings > Restart. After your PC restarts, you should see a number of options. Press 5 or F5 for Safe Mode with networking.

In case the problem is with Microsoft account, then you can reset the password using other computer which is connected to network. On another computer, go here to reset Microsoft account Password. Ensure to put same Email address which you see on the login screen, which resetting it.

Keep us posted if you require further assistance.
