Windows 10 black screen after update Toshiba C55Dt-B5208

Hi guys, I've had searching the black screen topic in this forum but found no solutions.

Here's my problem.

I have laptop Toshiba C55Dt-B5208 with Windows 8.1 built in 64 bit. I've successfully upgraded to Windows 10 home 64 bit. After upgrade to Win 10, I found out that my touchpad can't be used. FYI, I've used my laptop in this condition for approximately 1-2 weeks. So, yesterday (10-8-2015) I download the lastest ELAN & Synaptics touchpad drivers from Toshiba's forum but I haven't install it yet. Then I'm updating my Toshiba from Service Station and it successfully updated until restart. After restart, I really need to go so I turned my laptop off. FYI, I download some softwares as well, but I think it doesn't make my laptop go black screen.

In the afternoon, I'm trying to turn on my laptop and found out that my laptop has black screen before the windows logo show up or loading. Just simple black screen without white mouse icon.

I've tried to attach my laptop into my TV as my second monitor. Nope, it's not working and still black screen.

I've tried to log in to my laptop by push Ctrl key on keyboard and type in my password. Nope, it's not working and still black screen.

Last night, I let my laptop turned on thought that it maybe needs more time to apply the update. As I saw on my laptop, last afternoon up to night,  I see that power indicator lamp still on, but this morning only charging lamp is on and backlight from power button is on while power indicator lamp on laptop's body is off.

My questions are :

1. What makes my laptop on black screen?

2. How to solve the black screen problem?

3. Does the black screen comes from update from Toshiba's service station or else? (maybe the update is not compatible with win 10)

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and I’ll be glad to assist you.

The main causes observed so far are driver issues, output to unexpected port, and possibly also issues with the Lock Screen app. Please use these methods:

Method 1:

If you see the black screen only after sign-in and you can see a mouse cursor:

While at the black screen, try using CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to start Task Manager.

If it becomes visible, try finding LockAppHost.exe on the Details tab and ending the task.

If this resolves the black screen, use corruption resolution steps (dism, then sfc), and run the all apps PowerShell command in 3080495.

If this does not work, use File, Run new task in Task Manager to start an Administrator CMD window. Use this to create a new administrator user with the following commands (changing “

  1. net user test
    net localgroup Administrators test /add
  2. This will give you a test user to try, which will confirm if the issue is user or system-specific.

If you see the black screen or have a flickering screen before sign-in:

Try connecting to different video outputs on the PC. Sometimes a change in driver can cause the video to be sent:

1. To a different Adapter: from integrated graphics to a discrete card or vice versa.

2. To a different output: from HDMI to DVI, DisplayPort to VGA, or any other combination.

Method 2 Try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking or Enable low-resolution video.

Advanced boot options, Safe Mode with Networking, or Low Resolution Video

Safe Mode (Restart computer, press the F8 key when the boot menu pops up, select [Safe Mode], and boot up)

Some third party software such as security software will affect the System Restore. If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, please temporary disable the security software and see if the issue occurs.

When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your monitor. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

Method 3: Check Device Manager and look for Display Adapters .

If you see 2 items under Display Adapters, disable to integrated video card (e.g. Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon HD 4200) and restart. (try vice versa if it does not work)

If you see 1 item under Display Adapters, rollback the driver or uninstall the display adapter in Device Manager, and enable the option to delete driver software.

Check the PC or display adapter manufacturer’s site for an updated driver.
