Hi Jon,

This issue might have been caused by corrupted system files, incompatible graphics driver, or a software conflict. For us to identify the root cause of this issue, we would like to ask the following questions:

  • Have you made any recent changes to your system settings prior to this issue?
  • What is the build number and version of your Windows?
  • When you PC crashes into black screen, have you encountered any error messages or codes?

In the meantime, we suggest that you run these following methods:

Method 1: Run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) and System File Checker (SFC) tools.

These tools help us to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. As stated on the article, run DISM tool prior to running SFC tool.

Method 2: Perform a clean boot.

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 10. After performing a clean boot, go through the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot of the article to identify which service or program is the culprit.

Note: Please go through the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting of the article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Let us know how it goes.
