Why is disk usage at 100% on startup

Hi,

I'm running windows 10 on a fairly old Dell XPS laptop.  On startup disk usage goes to 100% even though not much is running and amount of disk being used is quite small.

It can take 20 minutes for performance to get to an acceptable level.  The only way I've managed to live with this is to turn the laptop on and go to the gym for half an hour!!  Would prefer to have a solution :)

Hi Ianto(2), try reducing the number of Startup and background processes to see if your system becomes more responsive on Startup. . .

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
Click on the Startup Tab
See any non-essential items are listed there
If so, select and click 'Disable'
Close Task Manager

Click your Start Button, type msconfig and hit Enter
When the System Configuration dialog opens, click on the Services Tab
Check the box marked 'Hide Microsoft Services'
In the remaining list, see any non-essential items are listed there, uncheck any you find

Click Apply and OK

Open the Settings App

Go to Privacy - Background Apps

Turn off all non-essential background Apps

Restart your System

What is the configuration of your laptop? Older devices with around 2GB of RAM aren't capable of running Windows 10 to the full.
