OK, there are 2 possibilities:
1.
If you are running a HP laptop, there may be an application on your system called Accelerometer which is designed to protect your hard drive from damage should you drop your laptop.
If you are running a HP, Click HERE to go to the HP website, enter the exact make and Model No. of your system and on the Drivers section find the Acceletometer driver (may also be called 3D DriveGuard), download it an install it.
2.
Otherwise, Click HERE to download the VC 2015 Redistributable Package, there are a few redistributables listed on that page, the one you need is the top one - 2015 version

1&3. Yes. ThIs problem first occurred immediately after a Windows 10 update.
2. The only external device was a wireless mouse, but this was not new.
4. I have not tried anything, yet.
Thanks

Me too.
Although I accidentally clicked "solved my problem"....it didn't.
Tried Fix #1 via HP. Uninstall/re-install. Didn't work.
Watching to see if something else works.

I have an HP laptop and my issue with the VCRUNTIME140.dll happened after Microsoft updated Microsoft Windows 10 Creator. I called Microsoft and used the chat avenue. I went through 4 agents who tried different things which did not get rid of the error message. I then called and talked to an agent named Aileen. She worked tirelessly until she found the problem. Dave is correct in that the Accelerometer in HP was not compatible with the update. She found it and suspended it. Viola, no more message! I was not charged anything by Microsoft since the problem was caused when the updated Microsoft Windows 10 Creator on my HP laptop.
Hope this helps.
