Start menu not working

Original Title: Jo B. Taylor

Out of the blue my Start Menu does not pop up when I click on the window on left end of the task bar.  I have tried adding "EnableXamlStartMenu" and setting it's value to zero in the Register, creating a new account and then inserting the above line in the Register and lastly executing the command:  Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Foreeach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation) \AppXmanifest.xml"} as Administrator.  I also tried installing all updates and the problem remained. I got these suggestions from the GEEK HOUSE web site.

What do you recommend I do next.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

After going through the powershell command, you must have received an error message since their are syntax errors in the command. I would suggest you try the following steps and see if it helps.

Method 1: Run the following commands in Powershell

  1. Press Windows key + X and click on Command Prompt (Admin). Kindly provide the administrative password, if prompt appears.
  2. To enable powershell script, please type the following command: PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted and Click Enter.
  3. Once you have enabled powershell
    • Type sfc /scannow and click Enter.
    • Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and click Enter
    • Type the following commands: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} Click Enter.
  4. Restart your system and check if the issue persists

Method 2: Restart explorer.exe

1. Click Ctrl + shift + Esc key to open Task Manager  > More Details (If you are unable to see the Tabs) .

2. Right click on explorer.exe (File Explorer) and click End task.

3. Click Windows key + R, to open run command.

4. Type "explorer.exe" and clickEnter key.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have further related queries.
