Slow Computer after downloading Windows 10 Update

My husband and I have downloaded the latest update for Windows 10.  Since then both of our computers are running extremely slowly.  As an example, it took 5 minutes for a Word document to download today.  I have another laptop which is running Windows 10, but I have not updated that one.  It works fine.  HELP!!!

Hi Rufatto,

I'm Abram, fellow user and a independent advisor.

If this was caused by Windows Update(s) then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Update History, then uninstall them. You can check the steps indicated in this link: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

You can also try to do Repair mode or a System Restore. The steps are indicated in the given link.

Repair: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-boot-a...

System Restore: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

Hope it helps.

What OS build are you on?  Hit the Windows key, type winver, hit Enter.
Or Windows key+r, winver, OK

I think that would help except nothing happens when I click on the settings button.  How else can I access updates and security?

Hi Rufatto,

If you can't open your update and security tab you may try these steps and see if this will work to fix it.

Open Start, type: CMD - Right click CMD and run as administrator

Type in at the prompt: (Hit enter after each command)

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Also run the System File Checker utility:

Open Start, type: CMD - Right click CMD and run as administrator

type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any integrity violations

Restart your system

Hope it helps.
