Host Process For Windows Taskhostw.exe Stopped Working: Event ID 1000

I noticed upon checking my Event Log Applications and my Reliability Monitor I have been getting this critical error about every 2 to 3 days now on my HP Omen i7 -16 GB Mem - Nvidia GEForce GTX 1070 on Win10 Home 64 bit and this did not start happening until I updated to v1903 on May 30th . My build is 18362.239. Could someone please advise me as how to resolve this or MS deploy a fix for this. It appears I am not the only one getting these. I have reported this through the Feedback Hub. I have run all three DISMs, SFC, Malwarebytes, Norton and I turned on Windows  Defender long enough for a quick scan and no problems seen. It appears this is a scheduled task that keeps failing instead of running to completion.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forums.

I see that the faulting module is: C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\unbcl.dll. Unbcl.dll is an unmanaged base library. This issue could be caused due to errors in .Net Framework.

Though you have run the System file checker, we would like to know if any integrity violations were returned by SFC scan. Ideally, SFC scan should be able to fix this issue, but since taskhostw process is still throwing the error, I would suggest to try repairing the .Net Framework and let us know the results. Please follow the steps given below.

  • Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key and R together.

  • Type APPWIZ.CPL and hit the Enter key to open the Programs and features window.

  • Click on Turn Windows features on or off.

  • Locate and uncheck the checkboxes for .Net framework 3.5 and .Net framework 4.8 Advanced Services.

  • Reboot the computer, re-enable the .Net frameworks and let us know if it fixes the issue.

Awaiting your response.

Peer Samie

Thank you for your response. If .Net Framework  is the cause then it must be from this

KB4495620 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 1903 that was sent to my computer on 5/30/19 which I installed. I have reported this through Feedback Hub.  Below are what my boxes now look like after the update was installed.

Hi,

Many thanks for the reply,

As suggested earlier, please uncheck the checkboxes .Net Framework 3.5 and .Net Framework 4.8 Advanced services and click Ok to uninstall the features.

Reboot the computer, reinstall the features by checking both checkboxes and let us know the results.

Awaiting your response.

I did as you suggested and the change was made. I rebooted then it download needed updates once I rechecked the .Net Framework 3.5 and .Net Framework 4.8 Advanced services and they were installed. I will let you know if I get anymore errors.

Don

I want to let you know that after I did as you asked I received the same error. I would like to direct you to this discussion as well https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/host-process-for-windows-tasks-stopped-working/3133b1f2-1512-4511-8342-b7a2e163c869 as I am not the only one getting this error since updating to v1903. Like I have said I have reported this via the Feedback Hub but I think this now needs to go further up to MS Engineers. Below is a copy of the Event Log error and Notepad Report about error.

Don

Thanks for your feedback.

Here I thought I was the only one who is getting this. I notice it happens after a few hours or so after I booted my computer up.. then never see it again.

Do you get this error after a few hours of using your computer? I kind of notice that on my end.

Also, did this happen ten or so days after you upgraded to 1903? That is when I notice it started to appear on my end as well. When the "roll back to previous version of Windows" button disappeared

I exactly experienced the same thing and now I am getting an Event 1026 just before it happens Application: taskhostw.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: exception code c0000005, exception address 00007FF930667B22. There is another member that is having the same problem. It seems most moderators are reluctant except for two that did not solve it to help.  I have reported mine through the FeedBack App. Please let me know if you find a solution.

I have filed several problem reports already about the  taskhostw.exe Application Error Event 1000 which I have had no resolution and now just before I get the error I am now getting .NET Runtime Event 1026. I am not the only one that is getting these errors. This did not start happening until after my 5/30/19 v1903 update and the installation of KB4495620 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 1903 and June 11, 2019—KB4503293 (OS Build 18362.175) . This needs to be investigated by MS engineers and a fix deployed. I have run SFC, all three DISM's and no problems detected. I have also ran Malwarebytes scan, Norton full scan and malware scan and all  are negative. I have also filed a problem report through the Feedback Hub.

Regards
