dwm.exe failures with KERNELBASE.dll

Hello all

I saw this thread which is what my issue is but the proposed solution doesn't work at all.  At seemingly random intervals, screen blacks out, have my graphics card and system fans spin up to 100% , and be unable to input any commands with any input device. Here's the message from the even log:

This is a new PC install from May 2020 and this issue started last month. It seems to happen when I'm not working on my computer (SLEEP is OFF) even though it did happen once while working.

All drivers are  up to date

Windows is up to date

ran in CMD: sfc/scannow with no issues

Thanks!

Hello my name is Adam and I am a Microsoft user like you and an Independent Advisor. I am very happy to help you with your problem.

Yanikc,

If you have a mini dump can you share that here please.

Have you completely Uninstalled and reinstalled you display driver?
(Use display driver Uninstaller to get it all. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-dr...)

Do you have any overclocking happening? If so turn it off for now.

This could be a HW issue please run 3dmark or your favorite benchmark program and test it at different load levels and ram usage).

Next it seems a user found that he had this issue and it was tied to the refresh rate of his monitor. If running Nvidia gpu you can use their software to set the refresh rate and try different settings there.

I'll keep looking. Please let me know the results of try the above. Thanks!

Okay copy that. Sorry I should have paid closer attention. Do you have an NVMe drive? These have been having a similar issue.

10.0.19041.423

Same issue here. Started a few days ago. Only happens when the displays goto sleep. Seems to get caught in a crash loop and take a minute or more of mouse shaking for the displays to come back and everything go back to normal until the next display sleep.

Hi all,

same problem here.

For your analysis: the PC "seems" then frozen, but actually if reached via RDP it works perfectly.

Hope it helps,

bye.

The same issue here-> freezes occur only when my display screen is in the sleep mode, I just can't wake it... And no input works: not my USB keyboard, nor my usb wireless mouse.

I have GTX 960 card with the latest driver version 456.38 installed.

The issue itself started to occur from the beginning of August after I installed feature update to windows 10, version 2004.

No hardware changes with my Lenovo X1 laptop. I went from seldom ever seeing the dwm.exe errors to almost every other day of this failure! I am seeing this increase in the last 1 month. The basic functionality of the PC to operate is affected and that is very frustrating.
