Today I just noticed how "evil" you morons (Windows Defender team) are. I had to comment on the matter...
Background: If you're tech-savvy and/or work in the IT Security industry, you know for a fact that Windows Defender:
> doesn't and WILL NEVER have the same scores in AV Comparatives as the industry leading AV-products (this translates in the quality of Virus Definition Files, speed with which it detects/blocks malicious threats, etc.);
> looks like a pre-2000's product (the UI/UX is gruesome to say the least);
> but most importantly IT MANIPULATES the user's choice of an AV product, similar to how they did with Microsoft Edge (and I'm going to detail that bellow).
First off, Windows Defender will always notify you that you are "NOT PROTECTED" while using another program as the default security solution (Antivirus), giving you in-app warnings that you're not protected, system push-notifications asking you to consider
"PROTECTING" your system (although you might already have an up-to-date AV solution securing your system), displaying hyperlinks that take you to the uninstall apps section in Windows 10 to uninstall your current solution.
OK so if all the above didn't DISGUST the living hell out of you already, then you'll LOOOOOVE what I'm about to tell you next!
One of my Windows 10 workstations (a powerful i7 processor machine) wasn't updated in a while, so like any security-savvy guy, I proceeded to update all my software, especially my AV solution (I'm using Avira and have never been disappointed). Then I realized
the machine was really slowing down, I even started a system log collector instance to see what's going on.
Long story short, it was Windows Defender that was clogging up all my RAM & CPU. After disabling all it's 4 (turned on by default options) through which it is sending data to the cloud, as well as logging locally info about your activity, the system returned
back to normal.
For the inexperienced user, it might have seemed that the Antivirus solution you had installed was doing the DAMAGE, but it was Microsoft's excuse for a security solution that was doing the dirty deeds.
@Microsoft, is this how you plan on making users switch to your security solution? Damn!
