Windows 10 PC - Suddenly shuts down with no warning message

Starting on May 18th my computer began shutting down without warning or error message, even after rebooting

I thought the problem was related to one game, however, I tested it out on another game and received a similar result.

Windows 10 shut my PC off with no warning or error message and I had to turn off the power supply, then back on, in order to restart my computer.

Things I have tried since the 18th

Clean install of graphics card drivers

Ran CCleaner

Ran Avast Antivirus check [free version]

Checked visually to ensure all cooling fans are working

Run the troubleshooter for Power

Hi Willard,

You might be facing this due to several reasons such as damage caused by overclocking, issue with the hardware itself, and more. To isolate the issue, we'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Were there any changes made to your computer settings prior to this issue?
  • Have you recently installed updates to your computer?
  • Are you overclocking your device?

Regards.

It could be caused by lots of things like a thermal event on your CPU or GPU, to a System Error, to try and trace the event that caused these crashes, try this:

  1. Type Event into Cortana Search (beside your Start Menu)
  2. Open Event Viewer from the resulting list
  3. In the left list, click Windows Logs - System
  4. There will be a list of events that have occurred on your system
  5. If you know roughly the time one of these crashes occurred, hopefully there will be an event marked for that time - It will have an exclamation mark on a red circle or yellow triangle on it

For the date and time the last shutdown happened, it seems most have the source of DistributedCOM and an event ID of 10010

Some general details of: The server {D7FD466D-F6CF-4C8E-86DD-12E9B0FDAE48} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

Others have: The server {4AA0A5C4-1B9B-4F2E-99D7-99C6AEC83474} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

And: The server {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

There is one that lists the source as Kernel-power with an event ID of 137 with the general tab listing The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S5). This can result in reduced resume performance.

Any idea if this is the result of a software issue and I should format and reinstall windows or if I need to take a look at my hardware?

That error is caused by software - Click HERE for Microsoft's Page on that error

If you have a backup of your data, for a stable system, you would probably be best to clean install Windows 10

If you do not have Windows 10 Installation Media Click HERE to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 4GB) using that tool or create the ISO file which you can later burn to DVD

I was wondering, what does the DistributedCOM normally do?

Also, is there anything I can do, such as making a system restore or system repair disk after I reinstall windows 10 so if the issue ever arises again I will have a non-nuclear option to deal with it?

Basically it is a set of code that allows client computers to call or interact with code on a server!

The official explanation is:

DistributedCom or DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) is a set of Microsoft concepts and program interfaces in which client program objects can request services from server program objects on other computers in a network. DCOM is based on the Component Object Model (COM), which provides a set of interfaces allowing clients and servers to communicate within the same computer

Yes there is a way to create a backup image of your hard drive so if htis happens in the future, you can restore from that backup - go to Settings App - Update and Security - Backup - File History

Odd although it does explain why it would crash on Mass Effect Andromeda and Shadows of Mordor but it was running normally while playing Star Wars the Old Republic, a MMO
