I think this has something to do with their mandatory updates. When I got the system installed (Win7 Home Premium) there was an AMD/ATI driver update which I took. I poked around in some settings to turn off stuff that seems intrusive and too much info gathering. Once I'm logged in within a few minutes or so I get same exact situation, windows freezes, mouse stuck, only way to get out is to power cycle the laptop. It's an Asus G73JH Gaming laptop so it's got the horsepower and memory capabilities. Running 250GB SSD and 2ndary 500GB 7200 drive. They really should allow 3rd party drivers to be optional so we can get around them screwing up the system by downgrading drivers since they are not as up to date as the mfr's are.

Just my opinion.

Mike

Exactly same issue for me. Am now in limbo, hoping that the laptop reverts back to windows 7 properly.

Given this is my work laptop, I will now have to work all evening to catch up time wasted.

Thanks microsoft. Wonder why Apple are worlds biggest company and not Microsoft? Oh yes, their stuff works.

Same problem but had to remove battery..I restored Windows 8.1 last evening but I continue to receive popup

messages to update..when attempting to update Win 8.1,14 in all, when I start to update Windows 10 starts to download again...have tried several times.

Before restoring Win 8.1 I ran my Malware and McAfee programs with no threats or viruses..

Something stinks with Win 10..

Any help appreciated..can not get any help from Microsoft, what else is new...

Same issue here. I think it is the driver update also. Keeps saying I need a driver update, but can not use my mouse as everything is froze up. Only way to get out of it is shut computer down manually and then the whole process starts over again. Can not use the computer at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have had the same issue with my desktop. After 5 attempts at an upgrade I spoke to Microsoft.

sorry this is a bit short of detail but it may help!

it was a combination of a corrupt win 7 to win 10 upgrade, settings in win 10 and the NVidia driver which should be version 353.62 which made my win 10 keep freezing.  so you sure you have the latest video driver.

there are a couple of settings to alter and a download of the latest NVidia driver , you could try an upgrade only it may work for you for me I had to

1. Upgrade to windows 10 and make sure it is activated  Right click start and click on system on bottom of page it should say activated. This will give you the rights to do a clean install using windows 10.

win 10 can be obtained from

Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

you will have to make a usb bootable by using program called rufus (follow website instructions) or you could make a dvd.

You must set your bios to boot from USB or cdrom  usually pressing delete or boot gets you into bios.

you will lose c:/ :drive data so back it up. I use acronis  this will also allow you to roll back to win 7 a very useful and easy to use program to back up your data.

windows will keep asking you for a key skip past these it will activate once it boots.

once you have windows running (and activated) it will freeze due to the fact it is doing updates which you cant stop so quickly click start and click settings . click update and security then on windows update  click on advanced options change automatic recommended and change to notify  then restart your system  ,check that this stays set to notify on reboot and this will stop it freezing when it tries to update.

the NVidia driver 353.62 can be obtained from NVidia.com or right click start  click device manager then display adapter , right click on adapter i.e gtx760 and use update driver this should pull down the latest driver.

Also there was a command prompt program which you can read about here I also ran this and it did find errors

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

since doing this the system has been stable no freezing.  fingers crossed.

I upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1, and had it like that a week before I clean installed it using a disc. This was when my problems started.

My first guess is that there was a bug in a recent update that caused this, which Microsoft is yet to discover and fix.

Or, it may only be affecting certain computers, too, as a friend of mine who installed Windows 10 using the same disc is not having this problem.

What hardware is everyone having this issue running? Could this be something to do with it? My laptop has a 1.4GhZ AMD processor and 8GB of ram, with AMD Radeon HD Graphics. (The recommended minimum for Windows 10 is 1GhZ).
