I signed in with the user profile that works, I used the virtual agent and ran the fix it test and then rebooted the computer a couple times.

I use four numbers to sign in typically and since it doesn't work,  I tried signing in with another option and used my outlook account and password, that got me signed in.

Then I ran the same fix errors test with the virtual agent and rebooted again but still can not sign in with my numeral passcode. . . and get the same error. 0x80090016

Updating windows also changed my desktop. Folders disappeared and the files in the folder loaded on the desktop making a mess of anything I organized.

I was not doing anything else this all happed after the update.

I have the same problem. This happend right after a Windows update.

Has Windows ruined my computer?

If so what do I do?

Hi,

We would like to know more about your concern. Kindly verify if there is any other account set up on your device aside from your main account. If so, are you getting the same error message with the other account?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you try to log in while in Safe mode. Safe mode starts Windows in a limited state, where only the bare essentials are started. Check if you will encounter the same issue while in Safe mode. For instructions, you may refer to this article. You can choose whether to boot your computer from Settings or from the sign-in screen.

Should you need further assistance, feel free to get back to us.

The computer is not working. When I type the code it comes with the error message. I am sure that the automatic update for Windows 10 has ruined my computer. I do not know what to do. I can not start it in safe mode.

Since the issue happened after installing an update, you can consider performing a System Restore in WinRE.

The System Restore takes your PC back to an earlier point in time, called a system restore point. The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is a recovery environment that can repair common causes of unbootable operating systems. Download the Media Creation tool from this link and use the tool to create an installation media.

Once you're done creating an installation media, follow the steps below to perform a System Restore in WinRE:

  1. Insert the Media Creation Tool, and then restart your device.
  2. Press any key to proceed when prompted.

  3. You will be prompted to a Language Selection window. Click Next.
  4. On the Install now window, click Repair your computer.

  5. Choose Troubleshoot.

  6. Select Advanced Options.

  7. Choose System Restore.
    Image
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system files to a date prior to the update.

Please be advised that programs and application installed after the system restore point will be removed.

If you have any questions or things you'd like to clarify, feel free to ask.

Hi Daniel,

It seems that you have responded to Rose's reply last July 20, 2017. Have you tried the other troubleshooting steps found in this thread? Specifically Monica's?

If not, you may try following them and see if one of which can resolve the issue you're having.

We'll be waiting for your response.

Regards.
