Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that when you try to shut down your computer you see a message “ELARA app is keeping system from closing or restarting”.

Elara app is a third party application. It would be great if I could know whether you have downloaded this app from Windows Store. I also want to make sure that whether you are able to uninstall or remove this application. If you feel this application is not necessary, you may try uninstalling this app and perform a System Virus Scan using Windows Defender.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help.

Thank you.

I have not downloaded any apps other than that which Microsoft might have added.  How can I determine what software application is using it, "elara"?

I have ran a full Microsoft Defender scan and nothing is found.

Thanks

I did a search for ELARA from file explorer on this PC and no item matched my search. I am on (Windows 10 Pro) th1_st1 10240. A search on your PC might give you a clue as to what ELARA is or at least the folder it in and the title of the folder might help.

Do a google search on "elara app"? You'll see link on Reddit for "Strange Virus called Elara" and links for this virus. There is also "Elara communcation" system used by hotels. Maybe Dick used some reservation system from his pc and this Elara wants to get a response.

jmarco0921 suggested I do scans.  I have completed both scans - nothing was found!

Now - I need to do to a search and see what it might be tied to...

Hey - I just read your comments again, and yes I did do a hotel and a few other vacation reservation acceptances from this laptop....

I also did use this same laptop from different hotels along that trip.

Now - how do I find that "culprit" and remove it?

Sorry I did not read in its entirety previuously.

Did you use browser that was not Edge?

If you used IE11 it could be located in IE add-ons.
