Yellow Star Icon for Favorites folder gone Windows 10

My favorites folder became corrupt somehow and I am trying to restore the folder with its yellow star icon. Windows 10 does not have the capacity to customize those types of folders. How can I restore the system folder to look like it did originally?

Hi Gilbert,

To isolate your concern, do you want your Favorites Folder to have the Yellow star icon shown? Here's how:

  1. Right-click on the Favorites Folder, and then click Properties.
  2. Under the Customize tab, click on the Change Icon.
  3. Select the Yellow star icon, and then click OK.
  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Let us know how it goes.

Did not go well. As I indicated in the original post, that option is not available when I go to customize folder. So my question, what is the other alternatives besides this solution?

Press Winkey + R to bring up the Run dialog. Type:

notepad.exe %userprofile%\Favorites\desktop.ini

Press {ENTER}

Copy the following lines to it and save the file (desktop.ini)

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21796
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-115
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
IconIndex=-173

Then, press Winkey + R and run this command:

cmd /k attrib +r %userprofile%\Favorites

That's it! Favorites folder would get the yellow star back.
