Windows defender is slowing down windows 10

I recently upgraded my Dell computer from 8.1 to Windows 10.  This has caused the drive to never stop seeking/reading.  I look at the disc usage in Task Manager- Performance and it reads around 98%.   When I turn off Windows Defender the disk usage drops to 2%   The constant disc usage has slowed everything way down so that I can barley use the computer.   Thanks for your help!

  3. In the “Troubleshooting” window, click on “View All” on the left pane.
  4. Click on “System Maintenance”.
  5. Click on “Advanced” and then click on “Run as Administrator”.
  6. Click “Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
