Windows 10 Pro - Unistack / Unistore - High Data / CPU Usage

Got the following Problem with my Surface 3 Pro:

Very high writing / reading and cpu usage of the "Unistack service group". Like the following file which is accessed by svchost

svchost.exe 1128 C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Comms\UnistoreDB\store.vol

Ending the processes result in short time with no cpu and data usage at all and then it is restarted and again very high data / cpu usage

I had the same issue, but managed to resolve it by disabling Groove music and Photos apps in settings>privacy>background apps. If you have large collections of photos and music you can try this, otherwise windows 10 is continuously cataloging your collections.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion however it did not work! Microsoft have to find some way out for this. This might coz permanent hardware damage. I hope it will be fixed as soon as possible.

For me it helped only a short time! (to disable the background apps)

I will now send my surface back as long as this problem occurs!

Everyone should do that! however I do not have that option coz I am not in the US now! If I send it by mail it will take lots of time and not sure that I will get this back. Lets hope for the best.

I'm not sure what your solution would be, but FYI I believe UnistoreDB\store.vol is where Windows Mail keeps emails and attachments. I might speculate that other content for the new Windows apps such as photos could be in there as well.  Apologies if I am wrong or if this is not useful information. I just noticed that no one on the thread seemed to know what Unistore was for so I thought I'd mention what I read earlier today in someone else's post.

Rick, you are correct. I have never seen this activity and started searching. As I read your post I remembered loading my gmail account to Windows 10 mail and it's busy syncing.

Hi,

Perform clean boot to avoid any third party software conflict.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need any other assistance with Windows in future. We will be happy to assist you.

Hi All,

You are right in that this is the temp mail folder, if you receive an an email that contains a virus this directory will go "skitzoid". In no time flat it will be full of logs and if you look at the content of the log files it is taking key narrative for later recovery.  I found the virus JS/Locky.D!Eldorado was causing me issues. I ran system mechanic and emptied the relevant directory and all returned to normal.
