Why are all app not in the startup list in windows 10?

Hi,

Why are all app not in the startup list in windows 10?

|
Hello,

IMO, only those apps having ability to startup with Windows are listed there. So all apps are not available on the list.

Regards.

I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Nothing needs to start with Windows except Windows and whatever you must have running at the time Windows starts because you can't wait to open it - normally only a sync, a scanner on standby, maybe Flash player updater which must always be kept current.

Anything else is a freeloader on your System resources that does not need to start with Windows. The greatest improvement in performance is often made by turning off a dozen or more of these freeloaders which are larded onto the Startup at the factory.

For example in your list only Defender notification needs to start with Windows. Nothing else. Period.

Follow Step 4 in this checklist to turn off Startup Freeloaders in all their locations. If you have any question what one is, either ask google about it at startup or ask back here.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Startup apps as the name suggests is for apps that trigger at startup. For ex, your AV.

There are only 2 reasons for having an application in the Startup list:

#1 a tool that MUST be running all the time in the background, ie Defender
#2 a tool that you will use every day that has a startup component to make it start faster when you need it.

Every application in the startup list has 3 negative impacts on your system.
#1 slows down Windows start, delaying time until you can use real applications every time you start Windows.
#2 they use a certain amount of RAM
#3 even in the background they use a certain amount of CPU cycles.

Why do you thing you need / want more applications in the startup list?

Hi IrBlueSky,

If you have a particular application you need to run at startup, drop a shortcut for that application into this folder and it will run at Startup . ..

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
