The group policy client service failed the sign-in in Windows 10

Hi there,

I upgraded my laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 four days ago. Last night I tried to login, but it took a long time to sign-in. After a long time, the following message popped up:

The group policy client service failed the sign-in

The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported.

At this moment, I cannot use my computer. Please let me know how I can fix the problem.

Thank you for your support.

Reza

Hi Reza,

I have a come across a similar error message on computers connected to a domain network. If your computer is connected to a domain network, please refer to this link.

First logon fails with "The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported"

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2976660

Important: Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

Hi, I'm also experiencing the problem exactly as described above.  I am not connected to a domain:

I have found various things to try to fix this on forums involving deleting the user profile, but they mostly seem related to Domain attached computers.  I love my Windows 10, but this is getting to be very problematic.

Any advice on how to resolve this?

Hi Babu,

Thank you for your reply. My laptop doesn't connect to a domain network. It's just a personal computer.

Babu,

The link provided is for Windows 8 and below for persons configuring images for distribution.  However, this does nothing for people experiencing this problem on our new Windows 10 upgrades.

My PC already has the "Type" DWORD in the registry with a value of Hex 20, instead of Hex 0x10 per the document.  So, given that this entry is already in the registry AND I am unable to change this registry setting EVEN when running Regedit as administrator...what is a new Windows 10 user to do?

My PC seems to lockup after getting the first message...spinning wheel for at least 7 minutes and I don't get an option to logon until I have hard rebooted the PC.

Is there a resolution?  There must be others having the problem.

Thank You,

R

I am having the same issue.

The group policy client service failed the sign-in

The universal unique identifier (UUID) type is not supported.

I have a Sony Vaio Model # SVE15134CXS running Windows 10.

All of the fixes that I have seen rely on the fact that you can log into windows but I can not. The only screens I can access are the login screen upon boot and the "assist"

area accessed by powering off the pc and hitting the assist button.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Cody

I am having the same problem on a non-domain Windows 10 computer. It started with noticing that I could not get other users to show for login. Now, on my account which is the only one account showing, I am getting the same error message when I try to login.

Will anybody be providing support for those personal computers not on a domain with Windows 10 Pro that are having this same issue? I see several people listing the same issue claiming not to be on a domain including the OP, however, the only reply of support I see is for the Domain connected machines. As was stated "If your computer not connected to a domain network, please let us know, we will help you." So has anybody been able to get any help with this yet?
