SNMP missing from windows features in windows 10

I just installed a fresh new copy of windows 10 and did all the updates to 1803.  When i went to enable SNMP the option is outright missing from the windows features.  How can I fix this so i can enable SNMP on my new windows 10 installation?

It's not in the services but the SNMP Trap is.

Hello Darwin,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Since you are unable to find the SNMP feature to enable it, I suggest you to refer the article to run the system file checker to repair missing files.

Hope it helps.

Let us know if you got the help you needed by clicking ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.

Also, I tried the following and this was the result.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:"SNMP" /featurename:"WMISnmpProvider"

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

Version: 10.0.17763.1

Image Version: 10.0.17763.134

Error: 0x800f080c

Feature name SNMP is unknown.

Feature name WMISnmpProvider is unknown.

A Windows feature name was not recognized.

Use the /Get-Features option to find the name of the feature in the image and try the command again.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Spoke with Microsoft Support today.  They had me 1st do a in-place install of Windows 10 Pro the problem remained.  Secondly we formatted the drive and did a fresh clean install of Windows 10 Pro (Downloaded .iso from Microsoft) and the problem still remains.  SNMP is absent from the Feature set.  Tier 2 support is suppose to call tomorrow to continue troubleshooting.

As a side note, i had Windows 10 Pro previously installed on this PC with the SNMP and WMI features enabled and in use.  This issue only appeared when I did a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro.  I have an identical PC that has the SNMP feature installed on it just fine as does the other 6 PC's in the room.

Solved this problem with a temporary fix.  This issue is apparently only in version 1809 & Microsoft will attempt to address it in a future update.

The fix is as follows:

Open Powershell with Administrator credentials

issue the following commands:

Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP*"

Will show Not Present

Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP.Client~~~~0.0.1.0"

Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP*"

Should now show Installed

The feature still does not show in the turn windows features on or off window however the service is installed and you can view and configure from services.msc  I have verified that the service works as expected.

For me the "Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP.Client~~~~0.0.1.0"" command shows an error:

Add-WindowsCapability : Add-WindowsCapability failed. Error code = 0x800f0954
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP.Client~~~~0.0.1.0"
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Add-WindowsCapability], COMException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Dism.Commands.AddWindowsCapabilityCommand

Any ideas?

From your post, it looks like you have an extra " at the end of your statement.  If that's just a typo on your post here then first verify that your running Windows version 1809.  If you are, then look at your services and see if you already have the SNMP service installed.

It's just a typo. Yes, i'm running 1809, and no, the SNMP service is not installed. In my case i did an upgrade from 1803 to 1809 with SNMP service installed on the 1803 machine and after the upgrade the SNMP service has gone away. The Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "SNMP*" command shows "not present". Are there any other options for this problem?

SNMP has been deprecated on Windows 10 1809. Please keep in mind, Windows 10 uses the same code as Windows Server,  If you want to get more information about this, please check this link:

Features Removed or Deprecated in Windows Server 2012

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-R2-and-2012/hh831568(v=ws.11)

SNMP

SNMP is deprecated. Instead, use the Common Information Model (CIM), which is supported by the WS-Management web services protocol and implemented as Windows Remote Management.

My computer downloaded and installed Windows 10 v1809 last week. As part of my system configuration process, I must be able to disable SNMP. SNMP is not listed under the Turn Windows Features on and off window. However the  tool I am required to use, states the following:

"SNMP" is not installed by default. Verify it has not been installed.

Navigate to the Windows\System32 directory.

If the "SNMP" application exists, this is a finding.

The correction is to goto the Turn Windows Features On and Off window and de-select SNMP. As stated SNMP is not listed. The monitoring tool we use and under Windows\System32 directory it shows SNMP installed. How do I resolve this issue?

Thank you.
