Send To > Mail Recipient Problem Windows 10

I am using the built in Windows 10 Mail app for my eMail and calendar. Whenever I right-click a file and choose Send To > Mail Recipient, Windows 10 complains that there is no default mail application associated. I can go into Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs, and it shows that Mail is set as default. However if you go into Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations, I note that .eml Current Default is set to: Unknown Application. If you go to click "Change Programs" with .eml highlighted, it does not present the mail app as a option to choose. If you choose to search the windows store, the default search it performs itself for the phrase EML doesn't return the mail app. If you run a search for MAIL you can find the app, but it says it is already installed and you can't SELECT it anywhere to make the file association. I also can't seem to find the mail app .EXE to manually point to the program either. I should also note I've never had Microsoft Office installed on this computer. I can't really justify an Office 365 subscription for multiple computers. It's just too pricey for home use and my family.

At this point I'm just stuck. I chatted with a Margie P on the online chat, but even after showing her the problem she didn't really seem to understand the issue. I believe she didn't understand because even after showing her the problem while she was remotely connected to me, she later said this, "I would suggest that you always use Mail app when it comes to sending any mails and documents, as it is your default program for sending and receiving mails." I'm like really?

Please help, I'd really like to use the Send To feature properly and I'm feeling a bit stuck here.

I can confirm the same thing exists here.  When you select mail in default programs>set did you include the "Mailto" checkbox?  See snip

The mail app is far too limited for me to use (I use the free email client windows live mail)

Hiyo ZigZag!

Thanks for the reply, but MAILTO is already set to MAIL, so that idea is a bust.

Also yea, the mail app IS pretty limited feature wise, but that also makes it simple which I prefer. If I could choose any few features to add to the mail app, it would be when you run a search, you could then select all the mails in the search and choose mark as read or unread, and being able to re-order the accounts in the account list. To re-order them you have to delete them and add the accounts in the order you want them. kinda silly.

Worth a shot.  Your best bet would be to use the feedback app to let the win 10 developers know your preferences.  Windows live mail can do all of your requests

Good suggestion with Windows Live Mail. I'd rather only use 1 eMail app though, and I've gotten used to using Cortana with the Mail App. Windows Live Mail has no Cortana integration... so that's a bust there.

Hope somebody can figure out a solution to my issue though *sigh*

I also cannot find any resolution to the mailto issue as described. The November update did not solve the problem. I use this function regularly and Windows 10 broke it. Can anyone help?

Not much if at all.  The integrated mail app is not a true email client, it is more a store app.  IF you want to use send to you are going to have to use a real email client.

This really makes the Mail App useless as what everyone is looking for is integration.

What is more unbelivable is this is a problem that comes from the win 8 times when this app was created for Metro (just read it on win 8 apps)

Microsoft never fixed that and appears doesn't intend to fix this.

This is really unfortunate as the apps looks really simple and easy to use.

Also looking for help. A right-click says "send to mail recipient" so I can't believe that it says this and cannot be programmed to do it. Why is it here? Just to annoy? I'm trying to send a small file from my desktop without going to mail and attaching it. No shortcuts anymore in Windows 10?
