Increase volume under Windows 10

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and while the volume controls indicate that they are at max, I can barely hear anything out of my speakers.  Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

WellI talked to someone from Microsoft on 3/15/2016 and they went through all the channels and nothing happened with the sound. Why this problem happened is Microsoft started forcing downloads of Windows 10, without permission from me. Microsoft is like a virus in today's world, nothing works properly ,shares are down because of it and so they force us to download. Well, my sound was working under 8.1 until they did this, well I am hearing impaired and they need to fix things when their operating systems don't work correctly. If they don't fix it I may have to go to my district attorney and file a violation under the American Disability Act; the other problem that Microsoft did with downloads is disabled many touchpads and never fixed that, well that I can get around, with a usb mouse. but now my sound which is important to me, doesn't work.

I also have the problem. I just bought a new Dell XPS system, I can't believe that this problem is still open and no one has responded with a workable solution???? This has been open for a long time.

fwiw...

My laptop has very weak sound unless I either install the sound driver & program from Lenovo support website.. Conexion. ... or go to speaker configurations and enable the 'Loudness Equalization'.

Control Panel  / Sounds / Speakers / Properties / Enhancements (tab)

I wonder if Microsoft did anything to fix this problem yet, I am sure they most likely did nothing. Microsoft is like a giant box with no bottom, they keep dumping loads and loads and loads of crap into this bottomless box and call it a new Windows system. How many people work at Microsoft and it's still a load of crap. From Windows Explorer that crashes more and more, Windows Update that moves slower than the pony express, and other things like services that can still be disabled more by viruses, than the actual person who owns the system can shut it on.

Actually, it seems MS actually did do something about this.  The problem seems to have been the "helpful adjustment" to output levels by MS within the operating system.  I am guessing this is the case because I just noticed something in the system configuration.

Going to Sound -> Playback Devices -> Speakers -> Properties -> Tone

shows me that my Treble and Base balances are set to (wait for it) -8.0 dB.  Yes, that's right.  Even though my Master Volume is cranked all the way up to 100% so I that I can almost get a "normal" level of sound out of my headphones, the volume output is turned down a whopping 70%.

Try turning up your balance levels to 0 (no adjustment) and see what happens.  It made a difference for me.
