Can't change default app after Windows latest update

In my previous Windows 10 settings, I had Jasc's Paint Shop Pro set as the default app for all gif and jpegs.  After the Windows Update, my laptop chooses PHOTO instead.  I do not want this.  But I am not allowed to change the default to PSP.  If I try to "set defaults by app," PSP will not show up (even though it displays when I click just on "apps."  If I choose "change default by file type," I am not allowed to make a change away from Photo.

I want to use my installed Paint Shop Pro because it performs the actions I want to use; Photo does nothing.

How can I control my own use of defaults??????

Hi Guestyguest, this does seem to be a bug in version 1803 of Windows 10

The old way still works, but it does require a few extra steps to create the file association . . .

Right click a file with that extension, choose 'Open WIth' - Choose Another App

Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open xxx . . .' - IMPORTANT

If the app you want to use is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if the app is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the application you want to use
