Windows 10 won't change language

I just bought a new computer (laptop) in China. The operating system (Windows 10) is in Chinese and it won't let me change the language. It doesn't even give me the option to download the pack as in older versions (having this shield "sign" right under the language. I found a download option in another part, but it still it won't load anything. So, do I have any options?

->Which version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer?

If you are using Windows 10 Home, you cannot install other language packs.

Press Windows key + Pause Break key to know the version of Windows.

Try these steps and check if it helps.

  1. Time & Language

  2. Region & Language

  3. Add a language. Select your desired language. That can be UK-English or US-English.

  4. Go to settings

Make it default by clicking on it and choosing "set as default". Go to options and download language pack.

Please get back to us at the earliest. We will be glad to assist you.

Hello and thanks for your reply.

I already tried all the rest you suggested and still it won t make any difference.

And why wouldn't Windows Home have the option to change language? It s such a simple request I think.

Well, In case it doesn t work cause of Windows 10 Home, what can I do?

What can I do to upgrade them? Will it cost me extra?

You probably need to manually download and install the specific Language File(s) you need from the Windows Download Centre.  They aren't all installed as standard because the vast majority of users will probably never need alternative languages.

I already downloaded them. By the computer "refuses" to load them. It just says that they are not available for this computer.

Hello Jenny,

I guess you're using Windows 10 Single language Chinese Edition. To confirm that same, press Windows Key+R, type control system and hit Enter key. This will bring up System Properties Page. You can see it there and confirm the same.

If that is the case, then you can only use one language (I.e. Chinese). Hence it won't allow you to load or add another language pack. By default the display language pack is Chinese.

Keep us posted if you require further assistance.

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes, that's probably what it is.

It actually says: "Windows 10 家庭中文版“,

which means : "Windows 10 Home Chinese Edition"

So please, let me know about further options.

How can I upgrade my edition?

Hi,

I have the same issue. I bought my computer in Poland, however, when I bring up control system mine simply says, Windows 10 Home.

I know that it is possible to change the operating system language to english as I have done this previously on Windows. Since the upgrade, I can't figure out how to do it.

I have changed the default language to English (Australia) in the language settings but it still hasn't changed the system language after reboot.

Any suggestions?

[SOLUTION]        IN 3 EASY AND FAST STEPS

I was having the same problem and spent some hours trying to fix it, now I finally fixed it!

(1st step) DOWNLOAD THE PACKAGE FOR THE DESIRED LANGUAGE

Path: Windows key, Settings, Time & Language, Region and Language.

If the desired language is not listed, then click on "Add a Language", find it and download it.

(2nd step) DOWNLOAD ALL THE RESOURCES FOR YOUR LANGUAGE

Same Path: Windows key, Settings, Time & Language, Region and Language.

Click on the language you want and then click on "Options". Install ALL the available resources for that language.

(Final step) USE THE OLD VERSION OF "CONTROL PANEL" TO ACTIVE YOUR LANGUAGE

Same Path: Windows key, Settings, Time & Language, Region and Language.

Below the listed languages, on "Related Settings", click on "Additional date, time & regional settings". A new window will open (that's the old control panel).

Click on the menu "Language". A new window will open.

Click on "Advanced settings". On the section "Override for Windows Language", select the desired language and finally click on "Save" at the bottom of the current window. It might ask you to either log off or restart, so the new language will be on.

I have the same problem, the same edition as Jenny -- Windows 10 家庭中文版.

That means, as she said, "Windows 10 Home, Chinese Edition."

I require an English language operating system on both the computers I just bought. So if I understand your reply to us, the only two options left to me are:

1) try to return the computers to the seller and get my money back (which I must do within five more days), or

2) wipe the drive and install linux, which will let me choose whatever display language I want.

Do I understand this situation correctly?
