Windows 10 keeps swapping my keyboard layout

Well this has happened on all my pc's recently.

I have upgraded all my pc's from Windows 8.1 and they all had the UK keyboard layout. It would stay as the UK layout.

After I upgraded to Windows 10, I would use my PC for a while and the keyboard layout would stay as the UK, but then after a while I find my @ key is swapped with my " key, like the American layout. I didn't have any problems like this on Windows 8.1. Does anyone has any idea what is going on, cause it's getting annonying and I don't know what's going on.

Thanks

Hi thanks for replying,

When I go on to Windows updates all it shows is updates for Microsoft office and no drivers for my PC. My keyboard is nothing special, because it's my laptop's internal keyboard and my desktop PC has a Microsoft wired keyboard and it installed 'Microsoft keyboard and mouse center'. This problem occurs when I put my PC to sleep mode (e.g closing the lid) and turn it back on and I tried looking for the Hardware troubleshooter and I couldn't find it. I went on to devices and printers and right clicked my pc and click troubleshoot. It said nothing is wrong with my PC. I looked at my keyboard on Device manager and it's a Standard PS/2 keyboard and it's driver is from Microsoft from 2006. I tried a wired keyboard on my laptop and it didn't make a difference. Also when I look at my keyboard layout when it is like this, it says it UK when it isn't.

My laptop:

Lenovo IdeaPad z585

AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics  @ 2.30Ghz (Quad core)

8GB of RAM

AMD Radeon HD 7660G + HD 7600M Dual Graphics (2GB)

My desktop:

Dell Dimension C521

AMD Athlon 64 X2 36000+

3GB of RAM

AMD Radeon HD 5040

Hi, I've had a similar issue but stranger.

Windows 10 upgrade worked fine and I have four accounts on my computer (which is a modern dell 6 months old). I had the Start menu critical error problem on one of the accounts and tonight I deleted that account and then restarted it.

The critical error problem is resolved but the " and @ keys are reversed (from UK standard to US standard). Obviously, I made sure the settings reflected that we needed a UK keyboard and (as suggested by the machine) sign out and in again, to no avail.

I've deleted the US keyboard and still these signs are reversed.

Thanks

Save your work and close any open programs

Go to Control Panel/Language

Click "Advanced Settings" on the left hand side

Under "Override for Windows display language", Where it says "Use language list", select English (United Kingdom)

Same for "Override for default input method"

Follow the prompt to log off

Should be fixed...

Yeah, thanks. After a few week and double checking the settings, it stopped happening. I am not to sure if it was something to do with my laptop locale settings being set to US, even though I changed it to UK in Windows 8.1 or a buggy build of Windows 10.

Anyway, thanks for the help! ;)

the latest Windows update seems to have  'forgotten' Enlish [UK].  I had to download the English [UK] language pack [Link available from Control Panel Language settings].   After a reboot, my pc is back to being English English.  :-)

I don't seem to have the problem any more with " being replaced by @ or vice versa.  But occassionally I do have an issue where my " key doesn't make inverted commas appear, instead it will cause the next character I type to be accented.  For example if I'm trying to type "come along", it will sometimes end up being çome along.

The way to fix it, which is even stranger, is by left-clicking on the "ENG" symbol on the right side of my taskbar, and choosing my default language again (in my case English - Australia), even though it's already selected.  Then my inverted commas go back to normal for a couple of days.
