SUR40 and windows 10 surface mode

Hi!

I just updated my Samsung SUR40 to win 10.

Everything else works like a charm, but surface mode is only partly operational.

I can change to surface mode with troubleshooting and debugging enabled.

The water start screen appears, but after few seconds screen size reduces to about 1/4 of full screen.

The surface symbol in the middle of the screen doesn't do anything.

If i try to switch to surface mode without debugging enabled, I get an error report that says:

"Could not modify global settings due to an error reading or writing to registry:

Setting name: FastRecoveryOptions

Error:"

I know the software is designed to work with win 7, not 10, but it's not very far from working.

I have tried different compatibility settings, ran the program as administrator and tried different user account permissions.

If anyone has somehow had the surface mode working with win10, i would be happy to get some assistance :)

This is not a big issue though. At the moment the surface mode is merely a fancy interactive screensaver, because i havent' got any other apps, but the default bing application :P

Thanks,

Tommi

Hi,

You got me a bit  wrong.

I don't have any connection issues, since I don't have anything connected.

The device is Samsung SUR40 with Microsoft Pixelsense aka Microsoft Surface 2.0:

This problem is about switching between surface mode, and desktop mode.

After upgrading to win 10 the surface mode doesn't work properly as mentioned in the first post.

Hi

In Windows 10  if you want to play around with tablet mode

Is often the case there's a manual way to do so

I would like to suggest you to follow the given steps to enable the surface mode/ Tablet mode

•Click or tap the Start button
•Open the Settings application
•Click or tap on "System"
•In the pane on the left of the screen scroll all the way to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"
•Ensure the toggle is set to either on or off to your preference.

Also refer to the regarding surface mode:  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg697127.aspx

Hope this help

Thanks

I don't have problems using the tablet mode. It works just fine.

Entering surface mode is the problem.

When running modeswitcher, it gives an error about writing or reading registry.

Running in administrator mode or compatibility mode doesn't help.

Propably i'll have to ditch win10 and go back to win7.

Anyone?

I'm still having the same issues.

Does Microsoft have surface mode installation files somewhere to download?

It would be worth trying to reinstall.

Hi Tommi

I bet they won't have. Every query I have seen on a SUR40 with MS support has been a never-ending line of the MS support repeating the same canned responses without bothering to understand the question (only my opinion but frankly its a shocking customer experience)

With rant off mode now in operation, if you still have your recovery WIM file from the original recovery partition you can get the files from there.  7ZIP can open the WIM file for extraction.
