blacks box keeps appearing in top left of my screen after downloading windows 10

hi

after downloading windows 10 I been get a black box appearing in the top left part of my screen. at first I though nothing of it but it is starting to get very annoying. what ever I am doing the black box stops be from doing e.g. writing it will stop me doing it or playing a game it takes me out off it. I would like to get this sort very soon as I have my GCSE at the end of the school year and I will need my laptop a lot for that.

please can someone help me with my problem

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I can understand how frustrating it could be when things go unusual.

I will certainly help you.

Initially, I suggest you to start your computer in safe mode and check if the issue appears there as well. If it does not appear in safe mode place the computer in clean boot state to identify the culprit program running in the background creating this error.

Step 1: Safe Mode.

Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started.

Refer the article below:

Windows Startup settings (Including Safe Mode)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

(Applies to Windows 10 as well).

If the problem does not exist in safe mode, try to perform a clean boot and check.

Step 2: Clean Boot.

Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Follow the article How to perform a clean boot in Windows in the below link and check if it helps:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

(Applies to Windows 10 as well).

Disclaimer: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists. If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.

NOTE: Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting” to boot the computer in normal mode.

Hope it helps.

Let us know the status, we are glad to assist you further.

Thanks & regards,

Abdul Malik

hi

I tried what you said to do. it did not appear on the safe mode so I did the clean boot disable everything however it is still popping you. I manage to get a image of the box and it is called

 \users\Owner\appdata\local\arcade\twist\cat\votpre.e

then it stops at the end with ... after the last e. do not know if this would help though.

Hi,

Thank you for keeping us updated.

Sorry to know that you are still facing this issue.

Let us try the following steps, and check if it helps.

  1. Press ‘Windows + X’ Keys on the keyboard.
  2. Click on ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’ to bring up an elevated command prompt.
Note: Click ‘Yes’ if it prompts for permission.
  3. In the command prompt type in the following commands one by one and then press Enter.

          DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

          DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

          sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow (System File Checker) command scans all protected system files, and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Note: If you are not able to repair some files after performing SFC scan, I suggest you to refer to the point 3 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log”. Under the section “Run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe)” to repair the corrupted files after performing SFC scan.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

You may also, try to Create a local user account in Windows 10 and check.

Hope it helps.

Hi Ninja

Thanks for your post.

Arcade twist is whats known as a browser hijacker which normally redirects your browser to places you dont want to go to.

Normaly a small black box that looks like a dos command screen is the sign of an infected system, I suggest you visit this site for further info.

malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-browser-redirect-virus

This will give you info and removal guide.

All the programs are free or free trial versions so just follow instructions.

A reboot between scans is also a good idea.

If need be reboot in safemode with networking in order to download the scan programs.

Hope this helps.
