Windows 10 Media Server/Streaming doesn't work.

I used to use the windows media server to stream video through my blu ray player. When I upgraded to windows 10 it no longer worked. I went through all of the steps again and had to turn it back on and which devices to allow access to but still it doesn't work. I can see my blu ray player through the network map but the blu ray cant see the cpu. I just downloaded Plex Media Server and it works fine every time but I don't like it as much as the Windows server. Has anyone else had any problems like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steven,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I suggest to turn on the IIS feature from Program and features.

Follow the steps below:

  • Go to Control Panel
  • Program and Features
  • Turn windows features On or Off
  • Find Internet information services and click on it. Let the services start.

Now check if you are able to stream.

Get back to us with the updated status and we will be happy to assist you further.

Thank you.

Thank & Regards,

SuJata Moktan.

I have a similar problem.

I've streamed to my radio (via wi-fi for many years) using WMP as the server.

Since upgrading to Win10, my radio sees my PC but reports that all content folders are empty.

If I use Twonky server - it does see and play all the files.

I tried your suggestion -

It had no effect - WMP server still sees all folders as being empty

The same goes for viewing video on my TV.

The TV sees my PC, but again sees all folders as  being empty.

Twonky server does see the files and play them

Same here. My Xbox One can see the PC - and the connection - but reports all folders are empty. Tried on the main account - and also a secondary local account.
