Loss of internet access

Mortybob asked on
I have a netbook which came with Windows 7, and stayed connected to the internet by Wi-Fi from my wireless router with no problem. Since upgrading to Windows 10, I will lose internet access every hour or so for no apparent reason. When I run diagnostics, I get a message that either "The default gateway is not available" or that there is a "Problem with wireless adapter or access point". The diagnostic program corrects the problem by resetting the Wi-Fi adapter, but 1/2 to 1 hour later the access is lost again, with the same result. Any suggestions?

Hi Morty,

I realize the inconvenience you are facing. Let me help you in resolving the issue.

This issue could be due to incorrect network settings or if the Winsock files are damaged on the computer.

Let’s try the methods below to fix the issue.

Method 1: Run the Internet Connection troubleshooter.

Step1: You may try running the Internet Connection troubleshooter which can help you fix the problems with internet connection.

  1. Press the Windows Key on the Keyboard.
  2. Type Troubleshooting and select Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on View all (on the left)
  4. Select Internet connections.
  5. Click on Next to run the troubleshooter.

Step 2:

  1. Press the Windows Key on the Keyboard.
  2. Type Troubleshooting and select Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on View all (on the left)
  4. Click on Network adaptor.
  5. Click on Next to run the troubleshooter.

If the issue persists, try to reset TCP/IP settings and check if it helps.

  1. Press Windows Key + X key together.
  2. Select Command Prompt (Admin).
  3. At the command prompt, enter the following command, and then press Enter:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note: If you don't want to specify a directory path for the log file, run the following command instead:

netsh int ip reset

    4. Restart the computer.
