Windows 10 machine can't access shared folder

I have a customer with a peer to peer network. They have just added a Windows 10 Home computer to the network. The new computer shared folders can be accessed by any of the other computers on the network. Additionally the new computer can access shared folders on a Windows 7 computer but is not able to access shares on another Windows 8 computer. The Windows 8 computer can access shared folders on the new Windows 10 computer.

Network discovery and file sharing are turned on on all computers. Password protected sharing is turned off. When attempting to see the shared folders on the Window 8 machine from the new Windows 10 machine a prompt asking for a Username and password appears. I enter the logged in username from the Window 8 machine and the password that user enters to log on to the Windows 8 machine. Each time it tells me the username or password is incorrect. The shared folders are set for full access by Everyone. The shared folders on the Windows 8 machine are easily accessed from the other two computers on the network. I can successfully ping the Windows 8 machine from the new Windows 10 machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the quick response Raymond. Unfortunately this didn't work but I was able to fix it another way. I am pretty experienced setting up small office networks like this so this was kind of frustrating because I was fairly certain everything was configured properly.

So ordinarily, in the past, I have always entered the user credentials for the computer I am trying to access shared folders from. I check the save box and the drive stays mapped from that point on. Unfortunately this wasn't working on this computer.

Turns out, and I guess this is something new to Win 10 Home that I needed to enter  the credentials for the local machine, instead of to the networked computer. Makes no sense to me why Windows would require local machine credentials to access another machine on a network but it does. So case solved.

Thanks again for your help. It didn't fix it but it got me going to find the correct fix.

srodar  Thank you !!!!  I have been pulling my hair out trying to resolve this issue ... changing settings, trying everything from netbios to advanced sharing to you name it ... countless wasted hours of researching, video tips, forums.  This was just too simple to believe!

Can you please explain what you did step-by-step? I'm glad you found a solution but I don't know exactly what you did and I'm still stuck.

Thanks in advance.

It's nice to know that someone found the answer to this but I also need a step by step  instruction on what to do.

I don't know how to do this. Really, I shouldn't have to do it. What's the operating system for? Can someone help me please?
