Windows 10 Apps can't access the Internet but desktop apps can

Just had the joy of upgrading to Windows 10. All my desktop applications (IE desktop, Chrome, TeamSpeak, Games, etc...) work as expected. However, every Win10 app cannot access the Internet. So Cortana doesn't connect to the Internet, Edge can't connect to the Internet, Activation can't connect to the Internet, Windows Update can't connect to the Interent, etc...

This is blowing my mind because I have access to the Internet. I'm writing this question on the same Win10 PC in Chrome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I would like to know some information about the issue so that we could help you better.

  1. Where there any changes made to the computer prior to the issue?

  2. Is the computer connected to the Internet using a wired connection or a wireless connection?

  3. Do you get any error message or error code when you open the apps?

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving it.

This issue may occur due to corrupt app files or settings.

I would suggest you to run Windows store apps troubleshooter and check if it helps. Please follow these steps:

a. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
b. Click troubleshooting in the search results.
c. Click "View all" and then click "Windows Store Apps".
d. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Please also run Internet connections troubleshooter and check. Please follow these steps:

a. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
b. Click troubleshooting in the search results.
c. Click "View all" and then click "Internet Connections".
d. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you

I've done all that, and I still have a problem where I'm connected to the internet, but Windows 10 does not want to admit it.

I still have that little red cross on my 'internet' connection icon in the bottom right hand corner of my screen, and I can't set up a user with a Microsoft identity because that requires access to the internet, which Windows 10 says I don't have.

Hi Arul_D

Here are my answers to your questions.

  1. No changes besides the upgrade to Win10 itself
  2. I'm connected via a wireless connection and can't really get it wired.
  3. Just generic messages that say i'm not connected (even though I clearly am because i'm replying to you).
    1. Windows Update: We couldn't get online to download your updates. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet.
    2. MS Edge: Hmm, we can't reach this page
    3. Windows Activation: Windows can't activate. Try again later.  Error code: 0xC004F034

The results from the Windows Store Apps Troublelshooter say: "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem.

The results from the connections troubleshooter said Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem.

Attached is a picture of Edge, Windows Update and IE Desktop.

I'm having this issue, too. Microsoft Support took remote control of my laptop and they could not resolve it, either.
