Wi-Fi Disconnects After Sleep or Switches to Airplane Mode - Troubleshooting Fails

I've seen numerous threads in late August regarding Wi-Fi disconnecting since Windows 10 upgrade.  Add me to the afflicted.  I've not seen a solution though.  When I Troubleshoot the Network by right-clicking Wi-Fi icon it simply tells me to turn on Wi-Fi switch on laptop but it is already on.  Sometimes it switches me to Airplane mode for no reason.  Always after Sleep.  It then will recognize no networks or available Wi-Fi.

The only solution is to reboot the laptop every time and this is frustrating.  Is there a solution.  My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L305D.  Thanks.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We regret the inconvenience caused to you.

Let us try the following steps, and check if it helps.

Step 1: Run Network Adapter troubleshooter.

  1. Press Windows key + X key and Select Control Panel

  2. Select Troubleshooting.

  3. Select View All on the top left corner.

  4. Run Network Adapter troubleshooter.

Step 2: Update the Network adapter.

  1. Press Windows + R on the Keyboard.

  2. Type in devmgmt.msc and click on Ok.

  3. Select the driver from the list by extending Network adapter.

  4. Right click on the Graphic driver and click on Update driver Software.

Step 3: Windows might be turning off your network adapter to save power.

You can try turning off the power-saving option in the network adapter's properties.

  1. Press Windows key + X, and then click on Control Panel.

  2. In the search box, type adapter, and then, under Network and Sharing Center, click View network connections.

  3. Right-click the Connection and then click Properties. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  4. Under Networking tab, click Configure.

  5. Click the Power Management tab, clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.

Hope it helps.

Let us know the status, we are glad to assist you further.

Thanks & regards,

Abdul Malik

Thanks Abdul,

I tried your suggestions.  The Network Adapter troubleshooter couldn't identify any problem and I have the most up-to-date Network Adapter driver.   I cleared the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then clicked OK.

When I brought the laptop out of sleep a few times it was ok but most recently it was disconnected from Wi-Fi so I had to click Wi-Fi and select the connection to my Wi-Fi which was never necessary prior to Windows 10.

I have done all the steps as given up but still my Wifi got disconnects when I wake up my laptop from sleep mode. I have updated the driver and remove the power management chk box. Nothing solved for me. I think its is a bug of Windows 10.

Hopefully Microsoft is addressing this Windows 10 'bug' as it is not should not be an acceptable component of the Windows 10 experience.  It never occurred until my upgrade and is extremely annoying to have to log on to Wi-Fi repeatedly multiple times daily.
