Hi there! 

I had the same issue - had no idea how to solve it. While reading this thread I was playing around with the computer settings and seem to have fixed it! I did the following:

>control panel

>network and internet

>manage browser add ons (under the 'internet options' heading)

>general 

>then I retyped my homepage address - https://www.google.com/ within the box under the 'home page' heading

Apply the changes - then chrome opened as normal.

When I first went into this section the homepage address was google.com/(random numbers and letters). 

I didn't want to have to reinstall chrome and lose all my auto logins (lazy) - this kept everything running as normal.

Hopefully helpful for someone else!
