Multiple listings of the same device in Bluetooth Manager

Hi Team,

I have Bluetooth Headphones that connect but will not play audio. There is multiple listings in the Manage Bluetooth devices.

If I remove one of the devices, The other goes to Connected and then reverts to Paired but I still have no audio.

If I remove the second I have 2 devices ready to pair. If I pair one it pairs and is "Connected" but still no audio.

After a while the "Manage Bluetooth devices" reports that there is once again two listings of the headphones paired.

I have tried to update all the drivers and they are all up to date. The Bose QC 35 headphones work well on all my other devices.

I have ticked the "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this PC"

The Windows updater is happy. I am running 64bit OS - 10 Home -1607 - *** Email address is removed for privacy *** - 32Gb RAM

I have tried the device troubleshooter.

Can you help?

Mike

Hey Raymond,

I have a garmin watch that pairs ok.

No software or hardware changes and no error messages.

The headphones "announce" the paired devices, but does not list my PC

I'll go through the FAQ.

What you are showing as paired looks like a phone.  A headphone will normally show with the Device Name and not yours.

Even more precise, the devices look like an Apple TV or one of the Unknown devices I am showing.

Hey Saltgrass,

thanks for taking an interest, but I assure you that my headphones are called mikesears, as it shows on my iPad as such. It is both a set of headphones and a microphone.

It definitely does not connect properly as it is not a device that shows up in the sound playback devices.

i paired my watch and that synced ok.

OK, but this is mine.  The headphones are a SoundBlaster Headphone/w microphone.  The Dell device is a Speaker set.

All I might suggest is to remove both devices and start over.

Hey Saltgrass,

Thanks for that. I have done as you say, many times (including reboots), but no success.

I notice you're icons for you're Dell and SB are what I would expect to have for my headphones.

I wonder why it thinks it is a phone or tablet? Bose don't support any drivers, so there is no help there.

You might check the playback devices from the speaker icon and see how it is shown there.   My headphones show as a headphone and a Headset.   The Headphone shows as default and the headset shows as default communications.

You might also go into the Device Manager and use the View drop down to show hidden devices.  If you delete any references to the device and all drivers it might help.

Does that headphone have any special features which might account for the two entries?  If they were noise cancelling, maybe one was the positive sound and one the negative sound ... just kidding ;)

Hey Saltgrass,

as I said earlier to you "...it is not a device that shows up in the sound playback devices". That is why I think it is not connected properly.

"...noise cancelling, maybe one was the positive sound and one the negative sound.." rofl

This is the device manager including hidden entries.

+

now showing up as 3 entries. 2 that are connected and 1 that is ready 2 B paired!

Not sure what you mean by this "If you delete any references to the device and all drivers it might help." Its difficult to know all the device references.

You are showing several "Generic" device reference in your Bluetooth listing.  Anytime I see that designation I expect a driver has been used which is not the real driver for that device.  I don't have your system and can't say for sure but I checked my three systems and none of them have any Generic entries.  I do have the Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth.

My headset also shows up in the Playback devices, if paired,  whether connected or not.

If you do not know what the Generic drivers are for or what entity loaded them you might think about uninstalling them.  Maybe the properties of the drivers or the .inf file associated would help provide info.

Edit:  I notice there is a way to clear the pairing list on the headphones, have you tried that?  Something about holding the power switch to the Bluetooth symbol and hold for 10 seconds and hear "device list cleared".  Then remove the device from your paired listing in Windows.

Hey Saltgrass,

non of these solution works. If I uninstall the drivers for all the generic device listings I still have no audio. After a restart, I'm back to square one. Thanks anyway.

Surely there must be a way to reinstall the Bluetooth part, or troubleshoot it!
