Login Setup won't take a PIN

After the latest update of Windows10 my fingerprint login (Windows Hello) and pin stopped working (Error Code: 0x80070032).  I then tried to delete my fingerprints and start again but it asked me to set up a PIN so i tried to do so but when i clicked on the 'Add PIN' and confirmed it was me through my password, the box disappeared and went back to the Login Setup screen and nothing happened.

i tried again but then it asked for my PIN (instead of password) so i entered my pin that i had before but again, nothing happened. The next time i tried i clicked on 'i forgot my PIN' but it just came up with a prompt to go to Settings and the sign-in options.

So basically I cant add my fingerprints until I add a PIN but I cant add a PIN for some odd reason.

Since I updated last night to 1709 (fall creative update) I have had this error. When I try to use a PIN to login after wake from sleep, I get the error, restart my computer, and can use the PIN successfully. Very frustrating.

Try to blank your Login password (or to change it). Can be done with the command line 'control userpasswords2' (without the quote signs).

Hi Alison,

Based on the information you've provided on this thread, you've already tried to delete the NGC folder to remove the saved PIN but there's an issue with the permission. We suggest doing the same steps as Dennis Mop provided on his post last May 1, 2017, however, we need to take ownership of the said folder first. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Press Windows + X keys and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Once Command Prompt starts, copy and paste the following commands and press Enter after each line in order to run it:

    takeown /f C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

    icacls C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC /grant administrators:f

  3. Once done, restart your device to apply the changes.
  4. Try creating your new PIN again.

Let us know how it goes after performing the suggested steps.
