Windows 10 Display problems after update

Last night my computer updated, like normal, and this morning when I turned it on the display was too big and fuzzy.  I have tried changing the resolution, I have restarted and turned it off and on many times, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the update, I have checked the video and display drivers, nothing works.  The computer still works fine, it's just the display is way too big, like it's stuck in magnification mode.

Hi Shiela,

Corrupted or outdated driver after the recent update can cause your device to display an improper resolution. To revert your display to the appropriate resolution, we suggest that you re-install your driver through safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Start Windows in Safe Mode. To do this, follow the steps provided on this link.
  2. Once you're in the safe mode environment, right-click on the Start menu or the Windows icon.
  3. Select Device Manager.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow for the display driver you want to uninstall.
  5. Right-click on the display driver and select Properties.
  6. Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall.
  7. Select OK.
  8. Restart your device to reinstall a default or native driver.

Once you're done, check if the issue persists.

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.

Hi Darwin,

Thank you for your suggestion, but it didn't work.  I tried uninstalling the driver twice, in safe mode, and each time it restarted, it still looks the same.  I have tried updating the driver for the display adapter, which is ATI Radeon HD 4200.  It tells me that I have the correct driver installed, even after uninstalling it.

Any other suggestions I can try?  Thanks!

We appreciate the prompt response. Our next step is to restore your previous driver to rule out driver related issues. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on Start menu or the Windows icon.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow for the display driver you want to restore.
  4. Right-click on the display driver and select Properties.
  5. Under the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver.
  6. Select OK.

Once you're done, check if the issue persists.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

A friend checked my computer remotely and found a problem with one of the drivers.  He went to the website and it would not let him update it.  I restored back to before the update and the problem resolved itself, but of course, Windows automatically downloaded and installed the update again.  When it was finished, the problem was back again.

This is the update that is causing the problems:

2017-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4055254)

When you look at the update description, it shows that there are three drivers from Advanced Micro Devices from 7/24/17 that it updates, however, these seem to be causing the problem.
