Win 10 USB Print Port Driver. Windows 10 is reporting USB port driver not found!

Windows 10 is reporting USB port driver not found!. I have installed the drivers from my printer mfctrer for the printer but when sending a test page nothing happens except I get printer error. When I go to START/SETTINGS/PRINTERS AND SCANNERS I see an icon of a printer labeled with my manufactrers driver name. I also see an addition printer icon which is labeled "USB Printing Support Driver is unavailable".

Is this refering to the Microsoft USB printer pipeline setup driver, which os on my PC, but perhaps not installed or its in the wrong location for windows to detect. ??  I cant seem to find a way to install the windows USB driver port. Any help appresiated.

Hello,

It's unfortunate that you are facing this issue. We'll certainly assist you with this.

I suspect that the issue might be with the incompatible printer drivers. Try with the below mentioned steps and check if it helps.

Method 1:

You may update the Printer drivers from Device Manager manually and check if this helps.

a) Open run command by pressing Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and hit Enter.

b) Spot and expand the “Printer device”.

c). Right click on the printer driver and select “Update Driver Software”.When it prompts to choose an option How do you want to search driver, then go with Search automatically for updated driver software. Once this is done, restart the computer to check the problem fixed. If it doesn't fix the issue, then Right click on the same driver and select “Uninstall” then restart the system and let the system install the driver automatically on Start.

Method 2:

Try installing drivers in compatibility mode. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

a. Download the available driver from the manufacturer’s website.

b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on ‘properties’.

c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 8/8.1 or 7 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps, let us know the status of the issue.

Rakesh, thank you for the reply, but I think you missed the point of my question.

My question is how do I make windows 10 install the USB virtual printer port? or perhaps you can tell me where the USB virtual printer port files are supposed to be located on a proper working system using USB virtual printer port.

In other words where does Win 10 look for those files to be able to create the virtual USB001 printer port.

I know how to install print drivers on Win 10 and I have done so several times including in compatibility mode.  When I do that, and designate USB virtual port as the destination in the setup dialog (instead of LPT1) and get to the page that says "print a test page" the driver tries to send the page, (to the port I designated as USB001 Virtual Port.), however the transmission to the printer is stuck in the print queue and there is no USB pipeline that has been created as shown on  START/SETTINGS/PRINTERS AND SCANNERS I see a printer icon which is labeled "USB Printing Support Driver is unavailable".

It seems to me that Windows 10 is supposed to install the USB printer support driver, but is not doing so.

Hi,

Thank you for keeping us updated. We will assist you further.

You may follow the steps given below to add the printer ports manually.

a)   Close any open programs and files. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "Printers."

b)   Click on the "Add a printer" button on the menu bar of the Printers dialog box.

c)    Click on "Add a local printer." Click "Next."

d)   Click on the circle next to the wording "Use an existing port:."

e)   Click on the down arrow by the wording "LPT1:" and select "USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)." Click "Next."

f)    Click on the "Have Disk..." button if you have the printer driver CD-ROM for the printer you are installing. Insert the printer-driver CD-ROM into your computer CD-ROM player now.

g)   If you don't have the driver CD-ROM for the printer, scroll through the "Manufacturer" list to locate your printer's manufacturer. Click on the manufacturer's name. Scroll through the "Printers" list to select the specific model of printer you are installing. Click on the printer's name/model.

h)   Click "Next."

i)     Click "Browse" on the "Install From Disk" dialog box to navigate to and select your CD-ROM's drive letter, if using a printer-driver CD-ROM. Click on the folder containing the driver for your printer. Click "Open."

j)    If you don't have the driver CD-ROM for the printer, skip this step because you have already selected your printer in step 6.

k)   Click "OK." The name of your printer's driver will appear in the "Install the printer driver" dialog box. Select your printer's name. Click "Next."

l)     Enter a name for your printer if one is not already assigned in the "Type a printer name" dialog box. Click "Next."

m)  Click "Continue" when prompted with the "Windows needs your permission to continue" message.

n)   Click on "Install this driver software anyway" to install your printer's driver and complete the USB001 virtual printer port setup. Click "Finish" when prompted.

Hope this helps, let us know if you need further assistance.

Running Windows 10. Installed a Canon Maxify MB2720 printer. Wouldn't print. "Port in Use" error.

Method 2 helped somewhat. Installed driver package with Windows 7 compatability.

printer will now print...eventually.

At first, the dialog box states that "Port in Use - please wait"

Then "Printer not responding"

after a few minutes, document will print.

Any way to fix the "Port in use" and/or "Printer not responding", or at least speed up the printing?

thank you
