Validity Sensor Error Code 31

I have an HP Envy DV6 and I have recently updated to Windows 10. As soon as the update was completely installed I was no longer able to use my finger print scanner. This is what I get from inspecting the sensor.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Did you try re-installing the driver?

Completely remove the current driver and install the newest driver available.  For instructions on how to do that Read all about updating drivers by my partner JMH3143 here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_other-hardware/updating-a-driver/a5e6345e-af9b-4099-bef0-8d22254aa1c1?tm=1436753520149

I have the same issue. I have used the Windows Update drivers, as well as the HP drivers from Windows 8.1. Neither work. The strange thing is that it worked after the Windows 10 upgrade from 8.1, but then I did a reset to get a clean OS and from then on no matter what I do or which driver I use, I get the same code 31 error. I have an HP dv6 with the Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018)

Please help!

To all who are having this problem I have found a solution.

Step 1.

Go to support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Step 2.

Enter your HP model number

Step 3.

You will be prompted to choose which version your pc/laptop is for now choose Windows 8.

Step 4.

From the drivers list choose (Driver-Keyboard,Mouse and Input Devices)

Step 5.

Make sure to download and install the option that says "Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver" 32 or 64 bit depending on your pc.

Step 6 (Optional).

Since I used HP Simplepass Identity protection which had come pre installed when I first purchased my laptop I updated to Windows 10 and found it uninstalled. If this happens on the drivers go over and choose (Software Security). Download and install "HP Simplepass Identity Protection 2011 Software" 32 or 64 bit depending on pc. After all that is done everything should be working .

I realize this is an old thread.  I ran into this issue after resetting Windows 10 as another user had done.  Obtaining the Windows 8/8.1 driver from the HP website did not help.  The installations reported a newer version of the driver existed and stopped.  Removing the device doesn't uninstall the Windows 10 driver.

It should work. That means you just need the new updated driver. I will TRY and download the updated driver for you and create a mediafire download link.

The latest HP driver from Validity is installed.  It's the same for Windows 8.1 - 10.

The reader worked fine since my initial upgrade from 8.1 to 10.  It stopped yesterday after resetting Windows because of an issue with Kaspersky.
