Make sure you send short link to them. They are known to be very responsive and might be able to point it in the right direction.

I recommend you block it until the next cumulative update is released. Many are reporting the same problem too and it looks like this update is buggy.

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?
Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

or

http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

The hied updates tool doesn't run fast enough to stop the update.  As soon as I uninstall it, it reloads & installs before the tool finished.  I had to go under services & disable the windows update service.

Now all updates are disabled.  I will have to leave it like that until microsoft either fixes or withdraws this update KB4074588.

Thank you

What you should do is enable active hours, which will make the update become pending.

Use Active Hours and Restart options:

I have active hours set.  I also set the wifi as metered, which is supposed to stop updates from downloading.  Neither one did.  The update one time did show as pending, but eventually, it said restarting now.  Shutting off the service seems to be the only sure way.  I'll just have to watch online news items.  Hopefully, Microsoft will withdraw or fix this update.

Thank you

I also experienced that USB ports were blocked after having installed KB4074588. The most frustrating thing was, that the keyboard did not work anymore. After having uninstalled KB4074588 everything worked well. As a temporary solution I blocked all future Windows Updates. When will Microsoft provide a fix for this problem?

I haven't heard a thing about how this might be fixed & I haven't seen anything on line.  I just search on KB4074588 problems,  which shows this must be one of Microsoft's biggest screw-ups in a long time.

I right clicked on "Uninstall" after which nothing happened. I can now not even close "Installed updates" window. Is this normal?

Hi,

on my machine the uninstall procedure worked, although it took a very long time to get it finished.

In the first phase nothing happened. Then after a while the progress bar appeared. Then the progress bar slowly moved ahead until it reached a state shortly before the end where no further progress was discernible. When I looked after it the next morning there was no change. Then I clicked the cancel button, and the system started immediately to reboot, which took much more time as usual, but in the end, the system was up and running and the keyboard worked. Checking the update state confirmed that the upgrade was actually uninstalled.

Strange behaviour, but it worked out in the end.
