Unable to access external hard drive

Original title: Windows 10 Anniversary Update

After install of the Anniversary update I cannot access my WD passport, the file system changed from NTFS to RAW! what happened and how do I fix it? I moved it to another PC to retrieve my files, and it's working fine on that one running previous version of Windows 10.

I'm having the same issues both on my Samsung Series 9 laptop and a MacBook Pro bootcamp setup after installing the AU. My two external NTFS-formatted ADATA drives (USB 3.0) are recognised as RAW and fail to mount. My Transcend NTFS-formatted drive (USB 2.0), however, mounts correctly.

All the drives are accessible and mount correctly on OS X.

ok folks like I said, we know of issues where the external (or some internal) hard drives which were working fine on prior version (<1607) fine, but after the Anniversary update 1607, they are either inaccessible or show up as RAW in disk management. We are working very actively to understand these issues and analyze the data we have. We are making good progress.

Meanwhile, all folks who have such an issue, can help us by providing some information about your disks.

We have diagnostic tools that can get metadata information from such affected disks.

Paulsey is an admin of this forum and he can contact you with private messages.

I will let PaulSey know to reach out to folks on this thread.

If you are willing to provide us data, that will expedite in understanding the breadth of issues and help us fixing all scenarios.

Thanks for your help with this and appreciate your working with us.

It's not just the AU that has this problem. I'm still on 1511 and every time KB3176493 update gets applied I have to roll back because my D: drive disappears. My D: drive is a two disk RAID array, as is my C: drive operating from the same RAID controller on the Dell motherboard.

I haven't received the AU upgrade notice yet but have tried a manual upgrade using the Media Creation Tool. This fails with a message that a piece of software needs uninstalling but doesn't tell me what software. I haven't tried a clean install using the MCT yet.

With regard to the issue of the cumulative update KB3176493  also having a similar problem. When that is applied to my PC one of my internal (RAID) drives disappears.

When I try to apply an in place upgrade to the AU edition the process fails with some software being found that needs to be uninstalled, but doesn't tell me what software.

I have now tried a clean install of AU and the installer can find NO disks on which to install even though both RAID arrays can be seen in the current version.
