PROLIFIC USB-TO-SERIAL COMM PORT WINDOWS 10

The rollback solution worked for me and an old Prolific chip hooked up to Windows 10.  I used the 3.3 version, and the Windows 10 yellow exclamation mark cleared immediately from the Device Manager window.  The attached application works correctly also. Thanks.

Fresh install Win 10. Install old driver and updated back the driver to old version 3.3.xxx

don't use 3.6.xxx driver version .. (auto update from Win 10)

Great work, after trying all sorts for hours, your offering worked in minutes.

Prolific could obviously offer a fix, but they are resentful of this 'fake chip' manufacturer, creating a problem for untold numbers of Users, with many more people yet to upgrade to Win 10.

Wow thanks so much for this.

This is one of the rare posts that includes detailed instructions, and it works.

Using the instructions posted here, I was able to resurrect the use of my GlobalSat DG100 GPS logger that uses the Prolific USB-to-Serial driver. As noted above, the Prolific company is no longer supporting the older Prolific chipset, which is in the DG100 GPS logger, and the logger would only work in XP, Windows 7. After the upgrade to Windows 10, the Prolific driver did not load properly.  The instructions above that describe using the release 3.3 of the driver worked for me.  You will have to do a google search to locate the driver, or perhaps it came with your original logger or device. The release notes in the driver that worked for me said:

Installer & Build date: 1.0.1.3_20090319

As noted above, you will need to run the .exe file to install the driver, insert the device into the USB port so that it appears in the Device Manager and will show a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, click on Properties, Update Driver, Search for drivers on your local disk, which will show all the driver versions installed on your computer, and then select release 3.3.After the device driver is re-installed, you have to unplug the USB device, and then reinsert it.
