One of the usb device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it - Windows 10

Each time I start the Computer I get an Error in the Message Centre

One of the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it.

I have tried using Driver Easy to look for a solution and it did find some that were out of date it has not cured the problem.

There are a number of questions on this support group but they mainly suggest removing and reinstalling the USB device

And that is my problem - I have a Microsoft Keyboard and a Roccat Mouse in the external USB sockets and none in the internal sockets.

I have also tried a number of different changes in this article

https://www.easeus.com/storage-media-recovery/usb-device-not-recognized.html

So far it has not made a difference to error

Any suggestions please

Peter

HiPeter

The only places you should get drivers for your PC is from Windows 10 Updates and from the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, those driver utilities are not the best thing to use . ..

1
Are all USB devices connected to your PC and your Webcam working correctly?

2
Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Button)

Are any of the device categories expanded, and if so, do any of the devices in that category have an exclamation mark beside it?

If so, right click that device and choose Properties

On the resulting dialog, choose the Details Tab, then from the Properties drop-down, choose Hardware Id's

Then right click the top item in the resulting list and choose Copy

Paste that hardware ID into your next post . . .

Hi Dave,

The only USB items I have connected are my USB Microsoft Keyboard and the Roccat Kiro mouse

The entries for those items are correct and the Drivers are present

In Device Manager I only have errors in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Part way down with a Yellow triangle I have

Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Unknown USB Device (Link in Compliance Mode)

I have not attached any USB Device to the computer for this to show up

If I uninstall the two problem entries they just reappear

Hi Peter

You should go to the support page for your PC, on the manufacturers website, then from there, download and install the chipset device driver and also if they provide a webcam driver, install that also . . .

Also, can you please provide the Make and exact Model No. of your PC so I can investigate this a bit more, you will find that on a sticker on the bottom casing of your PC . . .

Hello Dave,

My computer is homebuilt so does not have a Make and Model No.

I do not have a support page for the PC and as it does not have a webcam I don't need a driver for it.

In the Settings the Webcam and Microphone settings are disabled as those features are not on my PC

When I start the computer and get this USB problem it is part of a Live Kernal Event

Description - A problem with your hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly.

Hi Peter

If that is a self build, check inside the casing to make sure all cables are correctly connected and not loose or being stretched

Hi Dave,

Everything seems ok inside.

I have an ATX power supply and the cables have a lot of slack in my tower case

The Live Kernal Event suggests a problem with the Nvidia drivers and I have rolled back from 451.48 to 441.41 but it did not make a difference.

Your suggestion about the cables reminds me I moved the Graphics card away from near the PSU to a different slot.

The cables are OK but I wonder if it is something related to that?

Hi Peter

Yes,it is possible that moving your GPU could be the source of this issue, if you move the GPU back to that slot temporarily, does the error go away?

Hi Dave,

I moved the Graphics Card - Nvidia GTX 1060 to the other slot but it made no difference -

Still getting the Live Kernal Event and the USB error

I noticed in Device manager there are two Generic USB Hub entries - it that correct?
